GC powers off in 30 minutes - PITA

I have discovered that my MY14 Grand Cherokee will only provide power for 30 minutes (ACC/RUN mode). This is NOT the delay after the off cycle. This appears to be the case even when the keyfob is within the vehicle. This is the first time I have seen a vehicle that is unable to have the radio running continually.

This may be some battery saver type feature but is a real pain when you have to push the start button every 30 minutes to keep the party going.

Australian owner's manual also says this:

If the ignition switch is left in the ACC or RUN (engine not running) position and the transmission is in PARK, the system will automatically time out in 30 minutes of inactivity and the ignition will switch to the OFF position.

Is this a global feature or can this be changed ?

Yep, US too. It's messing with some guys who have purchased the nav map update that takes 90 minutes to process. You have to stay in car to use a button to prevent timeout or actually have car running/idling for 90 minutes.

What we need is to have someone with higher level access to change these useless timers. I believe some European ones have been accessed (Audi ??)

If the car shuts down, the update picks up where it let off when restarted.

Most cars today have battery saver modes.

Yep but they were only 30 mins done when they went out later to check. Just an inconvenience.

This has been the case with earlier model years on this platform...and is by design to help avoid inadvertent running down of the battery by forcing one to cycle the "start button" every so often to continue operation without the engine running. It's a common feature in vehicles now. Yes, it can be inconvenient, but it can also save someones bacon if they forget or accidentally leave things running.

I get it, but an over-ride would have been nice. Something intentional like press and hold the start button or one of a million other possibilities. Just sucks that there's no way to get around it without constantly cycling the button.

I suspect that lack of an override is intentional, too, given the litigious society we live in today.

Re: GC powers off in 30 minutes - PITA

When I've done updates that have taken longer than 30 mins., I've simply left the ignition in the run position with a Battery Tender hooked up - no problems.

That would certainly be an interesting rationale for them not to provide an *override* for something benign like auto power off while they still provide an override to disable the seat belt chime. If memory serves, disabling my WK2's seat belt chime was my first "mod".

Re: GC powers off in 30 minutes - PITA

How about a software option to change this to 30m, 1hr, 2hr like other timeout options.

Hint hint Mr Jeep

Re: GC powers off in 30 minutes - PITA

Same thing happened with our 2002 Durango. I couldn't make it home one time due to police activity on our street and and the Acc power cut off after 20 or 30 mins.
