Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

Had a similar issue in the rear panel just at the lip of the tire cover. Apparently, sometimes a panel isn't properly aligned at the factory, so the plastic tab with the metal retaining clip doesn't fully engage the receiving slot in the metal body. Just pull the panel a bit further out (careful not to damage/stress it) and re-align the tab (making certain the metal clip is still in place on it). Double-check to make certain the receiving slot isn't bent/deformed, then put a bit of pressure on the panel (sometimes a quick fist blow) and you should be good.

The above assumes this is using a tab/slot installation. It could instead be using "Christmas tree" plugs. Similar techniques.

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

Well the loaner thing is part of the reason why the Grand Cherokee costs significantly less than a equivelent equipped competition.

Dear God! Please tell me you did not pay anywhere NEAR $40K on a LAredo Grand Cherokee!

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

i've owned a couple of BMWs and have taken them in to the dealership for maintenance/repairs. They do offer loaners but in many instances you'll have to wait a month out for your appointment if you want a loaner. I luckily knew a SA at the local dealership and he would get me a loaner within a couple weeks instead.

In regards to MB and Audi, my parents own both. A ML500 and an Audi A3...Service costs a ridiculous amount and there are constantly things going wrong with them, moreso with the A3. They are planning to get rid of the Audi as the cost of service is ridiculous. There is a reason you see tons and tons of Audi's for sale right after the original warranty runs out.

I don't mind not getting a loaner with the JGC as the dealer near me offers free shuttle service when I drop it off and when I pick it up. I'd rather pay a whole lot less on maintenance and service than spend $120-$150 for an oil change and a loaner for a day. YMMV

Yes that is true, Im with you. I hate when people say "at acura, bmw, mercedez you get better service and loaner cars, and a car that costs 40k or more should always have this service"..Its been said plenty times before on this site, but Ill say it again....compare the features of a fully loaded jeep to the luxury competition. For the jeep you're paying $5k to $15k less...if the occasional loaner car and whatever other services you get is worth it to you...pay the premium. I understand $40k sounds like a big number, but really what SUV out there with options isnt in the mid to upper 30's at least? Ive owned mercedez and acura in the past and their service was overall pretty good but far from excellent (acura was better than meredez). Luxury brands are not perfect either, I had trim issues with the acura TL and major electrical problems with the mercedez. I agree Jeep has room for improvement in customer service. For me, Im def satisfied in terms of value.

I am leasing but this car is expensive, much cheaper Korean cars having no issues like this. It is horrible cheapo design and quality as per my eye's.

Compare NOT loaded at all, so? Result will be same. Jeep having scary knowingly bad dealers and services, not much different to any other American manufacturer however. Ford might be slightly better, Chevy is pretty much same.

Do they have cheapo plastic panels sticking out as on photo I provided on MB? Do they change oil every 3500 mil? MB oil change is one time in 10K and I am OK paying $120 instead of $70 as I paid one time in Jeep by mistake. Changing myself since.

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

The oil change interval for jeep is not 3,500 miles. My light usually comes on around 7k with pretty heavy city/highway driving. I have the 5.7 hemi...oil changes should be around $30. Although, i have oil changes through chrysler for two years at no charge when i bought the jeep.

$30???? My son's 4 cylinder Lancer cost more on oil change, where are you getting such price for Hemi? It will not cover even oil cost for 8 cil engine. This is 15 years old info! Also read your Jeep book for recommended oil change interval. MB book said $10K miles, BMW I believe 15K miles.

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

I priced out a comparative Mercedes (its the same basic chassis) and it was about $20k more.

Two reasons why luxury brands charge $120 on up for oil changes. They use synthetic oil and extended life filters, and they have a fancy waiting room for you to wait in.

I purchased the extended service plan and that gets me a free loaner. My dealer does this through Enterprise. If I make an appointment the Enterprise guy is at the dealer then. Last week I rolled in without an appointment and had to wait 15 minutes for him. I was talking with a retired Army vet about his '11 GC and the time flew by. Enterprise will give me a comparable car if I ask for it, granted it won't be an Overland but If I need cargo capacity he gives it to me.

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

Many Ford/ Chrysler/ GM dealers will do an oil change for $30 to compete with the Jiffy Lubes. It's a "loss leader" to get you in the door so they can sell you other services.

$30 is about right; My dealer is always sending my emails about oil change specials for 29.99. My Jeep dealer here near Boston also has a nice waiting room and provides me a loaner if I have warranty service that needs a day or so. Every car always has some issues; my old 3 series had a fender that started to pop out and was hitting my driver door when I opened it. Turns out, there was a clip missing from the panel.
