Well, ask them to change with synthetic and you will see around $70 in your bill. I never use non synthetic and always buying myself for changes in Jeep. In MB this is not optional I believe, they are using some 0W-40 oil which is normally is expensive. You could bring your cheap oil with you and ask them to change, not sure if they will and It will save some $.

To be honest I am alot more worried about the constant shutter problems many are still having even after all available tsbs have been applied, constant smoking and oil burning problems that most are having and Jeep saying it is "normal oil burning", the constant 4WD problems in sand in which the system will go into limp mode, the constant QL problems which are not figured out yet, the A/C problems that some complain of, the orange peel found on the paint of many, the rollover problems that was caused by a "overloaded vehicle" that happened to be empty in every video and pictue I saw, the new fire hazard problems that are being investigated, etc.

I do, just because I don't like to change too often.

I am not saying I am happy with other problems, this is just extremely bad in my eye's. My transmission is jerky even after Jeep software update they did.

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

Oil is oil it doesn't change regardless of what motor it's put in, and you can change your oil at there recommendations if you want. Good luck with the Q5 which you will pay more for at every turn.

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

Brietling where does it say 3500 miles on your WK2 - my 2001 (4.7L V8) says 7500 for light service and when i first got it - the Jeep zone rep recommended I switch to Mobile 1 at 1st change and then set interval to 7500 after that..... Been doing that for almost 140k miles and no smoking leaks or any other weirdness - you're either being scammed by your dealer (you are in NJ after all) or are dissembling/trolling. I just looked it up in my neighbor's manual (she has a 2012 Overland 5.7L) and it says 8k or 6 months which ever happens 1st... She just goes with her oil life monitor and that pretty much sticks to the recommended interval (FWIW She travels alot and has over 20k on her Overland)

My wife bought her 328XI about 6 months before I bought my GCO and we both paid about the same price, so I believe that qualifies me to give a valid comparison.

1. The leather is nicer on the BMW. It seems thicker, and they haven't "cheated" anywhere and substituted vinyl like they did on the Jeep head restraints.
2. The navigation/ display is much bigger and higher definition than the Jeep. But its not touch screen, and the I-knob thing is awkward.
3. You just can't beat the look of the leather dash cover on the Jeep. Given the price of other options on the BMW, that would go for well over $1000.
4. Controls on the BMW just don't seem to be integrated as a complete package. It's as if one person designed the cruise control stalk, then another designed the turn signal stalk, then a third put a heated steering wheel button on the side of something.
5. Engine access is much better on the Jeep. Granted I'm comparing a small vehicle with a much larger one.
6. The BMW has 50-50 weight distribution; Jeep, not so much.
7. Cruise control operates better on the BMW. My Jeep will slow down at the base of a climb then overcompensate as it climbs.

How do you explain the laundry list of problems I listed then Scott? Better yet how do you explain Jeeps reluctance to either fix or even acknowledge the problems I listed? Not trying to be an ASS just want a civil debate.

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

Going back to the original topic, it is disappointing to see the cover come off with such light use. I design plastic parts all day with engineers. It's a matter of picking the right material so it won't warp over time from heat, and designing snaps to keep it assembled properly.

Weather you pay $28k for a base Laredo, or pay $45k for an Overland, you are paying for the same mechanical design. Unfortunately in this case, it seems the cover design has room for improvement.
