I for one was and am. I bought a 2011 Overland Hemi new in September '11 and literally hated it as I was driving home from the dealership. Rattles, underpowered, weak steering, clunks in the steering immediately.

I was coming from a 2008 Range Rover Sport. Yes, Range Rover their mechanical issues, however, they are very well built and drive extremely well. I also have a 2006 Porsche 911. Obviously no comparison there.

My '11 Overland was at the shop numerous times from day one. The steering clunk, rattles in the headrests, sunroof, tailgate, etc. Four Wheel Drive failure light mysteriously coming on, door moldings coming off, etc., etc.

The Jeep service experience is horrible. They have a new Service Manager about once a month and he knows he'll be fired in less than a year as well so he doesn't really care. On to the next dealer that will take him for awhile. No loaners, no phone calls, never fixing the problems. Washing the truck with a dirty rag.

My window sticker was $47,000 on my Overland. Not a crazy price for a new vehicle, however, not the price of a Honda Accord either. It's enough to spend where there should be a high level of quality and a good service experience.

In June of this year, I had had enough and traded it in on a new 2012 BMW 535xi Sport. Night and day difference. I had temporarily forgotten how a well built vehicle is supposed to drive and feel. Granted, my BMW had a window sticker of $71,000.00, it should be better and it is.

All in all, I feel if you have had quality cars and go to Jeep, you will be severely disappointed. If you have had standard issue cars, you will most likely enjoy the Jeep and expect horrible quality and service after the sale.

This being said, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland does remain the best looking SUV on the market, hands down. That's what drew me in and drawn in hundreds of thousands of other buyers.
GEE $47,000 4wd or $71,000 German built car, i cant understand why there is a difference in quality, come on chrysler, we want at least $70,000 dollars worh of quality in our $47,000 vehicle

Re: GC - same Jeep quality as always

If you go onto the BMW/RR/Audi forums, you would also think they are lemons.
People either hang around forums because the are car nuts, or they come here for problems. Your average mug on the street would not know a forum, nor visit one if they were just happy with their car.
Any mass produced product be it BMW or Jeep or Toyota will suffer from quality problems.
It comes down to how you are treated once it is identified. This is where Jeep lets us down at some dealerships (most in Australia Suck).
Love my Jeep, hate my dealer.

No we dont. We just want Jeep to fix the problems that do arise like the smoking exhaust and oil burning, QL system problems, 4WD problems in sand, constant shuttering problems, A/C problems, etc without Jeep telling us they are "NORMAL".

Enforcer, you are right on about the people who are on car forums. I have been on multiple forums over the last 15 years for my trucks and motorcycles and like you said many of us are car nuts but others are just looking to complain and those are the ones who usually join, post a few times and then disappear.

I have had my 2012 GC Limited for several months and 5K miles with no problems. Although way different vehicles, it compares favorably with my 2009 MB C300 4-matic. Dealer experience with both vehicles has been positive, but I still do a lot of work on my own cars. The service prices for the MB are exorbitant.

Compare NOT loaded at all, so? Result will be same. Jeep having scary knowingly bad dealers and services, not much different to any other American manufacturer however. Ford might be slightly better, Chevy is pretty much same.

Do they have cheapo plastic panels sticking out as on photo I provided on MB? Do they change oil every 3500 mil? MB oil change is one time in 10K and I am OK paying $120 instead of $70 as I paid one time in Jeep by mistake. Changing myself since.
Meh... Do i sense a troll?!?! ;-P
