I typically never buy extended warranties but bought the maxcare on this jeep because I was worried about the potential for all the high-tech stuff to break. One benefit it gives you is a rental for your warranty work. I keep cars a long time so the maxcare seemed like a good idea. Not sure how long you keep cars for but may be a good idea if you keep them a long time probably not if you don't keep them long. I have probably paid for nearly half of the 2k I paid for maxcare just in these rental cars in the last 9 months since I bought the jeep. Never had a new car go back in so much the first year like this but all the maxcare rentals made it a lot easier. live in same region as you yes none of them do loaners unfortunately

I know the maxcare gets you loaners, but I didn't intend to keep the Jeep longer than 3-5 years and when you factor in the cost of it it does away with some of the Jeep's value.

If you keep the car only 3-5 years anyway that can change the analysis dramatically. If you look at reliability then Toyota/Lexus > Jeep > LR. Jeep has the Maxcare lifetime, so if you want to drive it forever then that alone can push it ahead of the Toyota/Lexus, especially considering the price. However, the LR has a base warranty that will take you into the 3-5 year range (the base is a bit longer than the Jeep's). Suddenly, it becomes viable again.

I never considered, the Lexus. Mainly because I figured the LC was over priced enough! However when considering the RR sticker, the Lexus would fit in.
That's sort of the thing. The LC, at least to me, seems just way too expensive to be non-luxury. You're talking about a car that is less luxurious than a GC Overland but costs significantly more. Now, I get it, it is bigger and such, and arguably more reliable, but that is a lot of money to spend to get a Toyota. You're spending Range Rover Sport money for little luxury or prestige. If you're throwing the RR into the ring, it gets hard to justify the LC.

Now, if you're thinking "oh man, this is all so expensive" then I strongly suggest just sticking with the GC Overland or Summit. I think both the RR and the LC/LX570 are massive luxury purchases and like all luxury purchases they're silly if you're stretching a budget. Otherwise, I have a GC Overland and I can't say I ever kick myself that I didn't spend 50%+ more on another car. Just my 2c.

Re: GC vs Land Cruiser vs Range Rover

^^ I agree. When you consider a RRS that's maybe 1-2 years old, or even a used LC, or Lexus for that matter, you can find a "cherry" that some person drove to "the club" for a more reasonable price.

Problem is, I always like the new features, and that's the hook I can't seem to escape. For instance the new RRS, and RR shaved off around, what, 700lbs for the 14 model year! Talk about a kick in the pants.

To answer the OP's question - yes, I considered a few Land Rover models. At the end of the day, reliability killed it. Plus, the availability of a Maxcare liftetime warranty made it a no-brainer.
I would definitely consider a land rover if they offered a diesel in the USA. But Toyota, man those are some ugly SUV's...

I wouldn't consider an LR for anything but for a trip to the junkyard. They are the worst vehicles in the world and the numbers back it up. Jeeps are FAR from perfect...but not 220 problems per 100 vehicles junk.

I wouldn't be shocked if the 2014 JGC had around that number of problems per vehicle. There certainly seem to be a large number of common issues with them.
