I could take it or leave it. Maybe they could offer it as an option on all models though. It might be that it is being saved for the top of the line Grand Cherokee ?
I guess that's the difference between German and Germanish.

The only reason the mirror is that big is to cover the field of view. A camera output display can do that with a much smaller screen and a heads up style can be semi-transparent. They could even make it turn solid when you turn your turn signal on.

Eliminating the mirror would also eliminate glare from reflected headlights without having to resort to mirror darkening.

Have you ever seen cameras in a snow storm or rain. It ain't gonna happen

That's only because they put the absolute cheapest piece of junk camera in there with little or no element protection.

A proper high rez, all weather camera with a heated case would solve those issues.

I do agree that the current state of factory cameras in cars is inadequate to do that.

Having said that, I predict front and rear cameras that can record will likely become common as people start wanting to protect themselves with dash cams. Once that happens, the quality of the cameras will improve and we'll see the night vision and surround view capabilities being used in heads up displays.

I also believe that cameras for exterior views will become more prevalent in the industry in the next few years and may eventually overtake physical mirrors. In the mean time, they'll augment the mirrors in various ways, especially for "blind spot" viewing.

Re: GC Wish List

One feature I love is actually in my friends Honda Accord (and I think its on volvo and some other vehicles). The camera that is located on the right side view mirror. When you use your right turn signal, the camera activates and shows on the dash screen. Completely eliminates the blind spot. They could easily add that feature to the next JGC

Re: GC Wish List

Yea, my spouse's youngest sister has a new Honda Pilot with that camera feature...nice, quite frankly.

Not sure if the accord had a better camera? The one I saw in a civic was useless in the rain. Screen was a total blur when activated

My guess is yes, the accord has a better camera/screen. My mom has the Chrysler 200 with the same screen that is in my Overland. Her backup camera at night is almost useless while I find the Jeeps very easy to see. Maybe they use lesser quality camera/lens or perhaps its just that her reverse lamps arent as bright.
