Gear shift question

Just going over my new Overland I have a question for other owners. I noticed with the gear shift in drive I have some play or slop in the shifter forward. In other words when it is in the drive positon I can move the shifter forward about on inch free. I do not recall noticing this on my previous limited. In the other positions it is tight. Just wondering if someone could check and let me know. Thanks

Re: Gear shift question

That allows you to downshift (left) /upshift (right) while in D.

I know about the side to side movement for the shifting. I was talking about if you push the shifter forward toward Neutral.

Re: Gear shift question

Sorry about that, I misread your post. I haven't noticed that on mine but will check though.

Re: Gear shift question

I had a chance to actually drive (and see my new ride ) in the daylight hours today and checked the shifter.
There is no movement on mine. It is solid and no play forward at all.

Re: Gear shift question

I have about an inch of play. No big deal.

It's not a big deal to me either. I was just driving and I put my hand on the shifter and noticed I could push it foward about an inch like it has some slop in it. In the other positions it is tight. Like I said not a big deal just wondering if it's normal.

Its may be like that so the shifter can move side to side without binding.

Re: Gear shift question

It will actually go about six inches forward, first from drive into neutral, then into reverse, then into park. I must be missing something here.

Re: Gear shift question

Mine has no play in terms of rattling around on its own, and if you push on it lightly it still doesn't move, but if you push on it a little harder it will move forward about an inch or so before it gets to the stop between D and N, and then if you push it any harder it shifts to N. I'm not sure why they designed it this way, but it definitely seems like it was designed that way.
