Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

it happens to all makes so nothing unusual here except the owner who has to put up with one of JNAP not finest.
I expected to have a very good experience with my JGC diesel and it has been bulletproof but only 1900 miles.

When getting an experience like this is sours the owner of this make. It isn't representative of mine and Consumer Reports isn't giving it very good marks either which is a shame for those of us that have totally enjoyed the ride.

Best of luck on the next make. I see this issue repeated for every make out there from BMW to Subaru. Some of these cars and trucks are just lemons...

Jeep opened a case with the Enhanced Customer Care Center...that experience was anything but enhanced. Continual requests to delay or have a pointless meeting which nothing came from. I maintain that the long-term ownership costs from a '14 JGC will be significantly higher than any other vehicle.

I give HUGE credit to the Dealer. They have been extremely supportive (Dick Poe Jeep, El Paso) and even gone as far to offer to purchase it back separate of Jeep/Chrysler. At least the dealer understands the concept of Customer Service. Corporate Chrysler/Jeep should take a lesson from them!

While I am taking a loss on the vehicle, I will happily do it to be rid of this steaming pile of junk.

Best of luck to those wishing to hang on to their vehicle. Seriously, best of luck! You'll need it.

Adios!
Your horror story is the final straw in our selection process. Consumer Reports, KBB, Edmunds, TrueDelta, JD Power, and of course this website - all send up huge red flags. JGC is now officially off our buy consideration list for September. Thanks.

Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

Hate to hear that, especially because I'm having issues with my '14 Limited 4x4 at the moment. My head unit has gone bat shit crazy. SXM just flat out doesn't work half the time. Have to manually reset the unit and then it might work. About 2 weeks ago it just completely quit responding to any input. Couldn't change volume/stations/climate control/heated seats & steering.....really pissed me off. Has gotten marginally better at best, but still not impressed. Also have the hard shift and rear end "thud" when starting from a stop. Hard shifts through about 3rd gear, steering wheel vibration, completely worn tires @ 20k miles running recommended air pressure, and had my evap core replaced at 4 mo. of ownership with about 6k on the clock. Entire dash had to come out for that. Was none too happy when I got the pics from my service advisor, who was even worse than the repair. He has since been fired from that dealer and I likely will not return to them for any sort of service, warranty or otherwise. As much as my GC is costing me each month, I love it, but I'm just not sold on its quality. Sad, too, because I have an '11 JK Unlimted Rubicon that I beat on and it's handled everything I've thrown at it and asked for more. 47k on it, with about 29k on 2.5" lift and 37s. Pretty disappointed at the moment.

Consumers said the same thing about my 2002 GC (sold at 217K) and my wifes 1999 VW Passat (sold at 227K). Best two cars we've owned and they were both on Consumers "Do not buy" list.

I think the Transmission and Radio have been the biggest headaches and I believe they are both resolved. But it will be a while before the problem units and old firmware are flushed out of the system.

After that I think we will see more typical failure/problem rates.

But the transmission and radio have pushed the failure statistics above the norm. Both pretty critical components.

Now go and find a horror story on your next brand you pick. I'm sure you can find one.

You should look at the polls on this site and despite problems, how many folks still love their Jeep and would still buy again.

One person got his Jeep Bought back and Bought another one !! And now is happy.

You got lucky. You can't blame somebody for making an educated decision based on more than just anecdotal stories of others getting lucky.

I'd say I might be lucky on the VW. But not on the GC. I here so many reports of folks loving their Jeeps.

I had a good friend that worked at the Jeep dealer and he pointed at all the Jeeps in for service. He said they averaged 150K miles on them. He hit 300K on his.

It only takes one or two issues like the transmission/radio to send the Jeep to the bottom of the list.

Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

The Jeep is a great vehicle, BUT there are also a lot of people who are having issues with the vehicle, myself included.

Chrysler clearly has some electrical issues they need to work on...

Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

The trans issue is almost to be expected with the implementation of a new unit. So pending it getting fixed, I can overlook that part. The head unit may be fairly new too, but there's do much functionality in it that you really can't do without that makes it a real problem. And people keep having issues with them even after being flashed with the latest software updates. Certainly not cheap to replace out of factory warranty I'm sure.

Have you decided what to replace your Jeep with?

IMHO no issues "should be expected" in a vehicle in this day and age.

You can explain it away all you want, but however great a vehicle it may be...dealing with it being in the shop all the time takes a huge chunk of that enthusiasm out of it...trust me.

I would feel that same way. I've had three jeeps with no major issues so it's hard to believe, but there are obviously issues. As someone else mentioned what are you considering. Within price and performance the pickings are probably slim.

Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

Sorry about some of your problems. My GC has 9k miles in about four months. It is clearly the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. The dealer did a flash but I wasn't having any problems. I really hope to get a lot of miles with few (or no) problems with this vehicle. I do realize that there is quite a bit of tech to the GC, so that doesn't help in the long run.

I did get the smaller display due to the fact I read a lot of problems with the larger one on this forum. Also didn't go for navigation, I got a garmin already. So I hope those with bad luck (troublesome) vehicles get things straightened out. Those of you with a lot of issues I don't blame you for unloading.
