Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

Its a shame that the Dealers are all in denial along with Jeep Corp. They claim they haven't heard of our issues before. I had my 14 Summit in for the usb/radio and the crazy hot/cold temperatures with the climate system. I'm still not happy. The usb jams the radio and locks it up. I push in the mute switch and the change channel for 12 seconds and the entire cluster reboots and all is ok until the next jam. The air/heating system is out of a YUGO! Its very frustrating intermittently.
here is a link with all of the issues:

Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

I was going to buy a Ford Explorer fully loaded at $51,000.00 I decided on the Summit instead. I had joined the Explorer Forum and did lots of research. What I really liked was the fact that Ford Motor Corp assigned a Service Rep. to monitor the Forum regularly. The Rep was a woman and She didn't use a made up handle. It was Ford Motors etc. They would contact the owners and ask questions and make contact and set up meetings at Dealers etc. If Jeep is going to go upscale ($60,000-$80,000 Grand Wagoneer) market as Marchione recently stated, They better get on the ball and quick!

I purchased the Lifetime Max Coverage as insurance.
I have Lexus 450H for 3 years and it has been perfect in every way.

There are LOTS of folks reporting problems with the newest WK2s. The "fact" that Jeep/Chrysler/Fiat continue to say they don't know of any major issues is a HUGE part of the problem. You can't fix a problem until you at least admit that one exists!

Couldn't believe the killer deal I got too (less than the "Tread Lightly" price), top money for my trade...and I even got Chrysler's 0.9% for 4 years.

After finally getting my Limited running the way I wanted (after 10 months of agony), the straw that broke the camels back was a check engine light and transmission sticking in "Sport" mode that just came out of the blue last week. Things cleared up after stopping the vehicle and turning it off..then on again, but that was it for this vehicle for me.

I pick up my new Overland this weekend.

Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

Sorry to hear that - I have had my Summit for a year now (12K Miles) and although I had issues up front (Fender Flares, Water in tail light, Uconnect issues etc) the Jeep has been very reliable compared to my previous Mercedes E320 and Cadillac Escalade. The Mercedes was always in the shop and ended up with a blown engine at 60k and the Escalade blew its transmission at 70K. I think it is a crap shoot with cars these days and no matter what brand you decide to go with there will be those that become the problem children of the family. Heck , my brother picked up a 2014 RangeRover Sport and its been in the shop 3x since he purchased it in December.

I completely agree. I don't think it is unrealistic to expect a brand new vehicle to have no problems. I also don't think it is a huge deal to have a few, small problems either. However, when few turns into many and small turns into substantial, it definitely gets annoying and frustrating. Couple that with terrible service (at least in my experience), and suddenly your enthusiasm for the vehicle drops off of a cliff. My problems have started to subside (although they are far from gone) and my enthusiasm is returning, but it will be a long time (if ever) before I like this vehicle as much as I did for the first 3000 miles (before the problems started).

Also, you can't really understand what it is like to have problems if you are not experiencing any. I was one of the people that slammed those that were negative because they were having issues, and then I got some of my own and my attitude completely changed.

Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

I think the big problems are:

1) Training and experience with these new generation Vehicles. Getting right to the problem accurately and efficiently.

2) Commonly heard poor customer relations. Partly having to do with number #1. How many times have we read, "All GC's do it, so it's normal".

3) Quality Control. Too many errors on the Factory line and/or shipping.

4) Spare parts supply causing excessive waits on what should be at most 2 day repairs. Diagnose and Order Parts Day 1. Overnight Part Replace and Return Vehicle Day 2.

The actual design of the GC is probably the least significant issue.

Re: Getting rid of it...'14 JGC

I hope the OP and others that are thinking about not buying again would think of how many people out there that don't use the site or don't post every single good thing they love about their Jeep on here. If people aren't having issues, they probably aren't posting. I've only had mine in for an oil change and the Tranny TSB, everything is working as it should. Yes the HVAC is a little funny but I don't let that ruin my day.

I think what adds insult to injury is as many of mentioned the customer service. If you having a problem to me the red carpet should be rolled out, all the weight should be lifted and jeep should do everything to help that just doesn't happen.

This is just unrealistic. Plain and simple. Expecting means you feel 100% confidence that there will be no issues at all. No manufacturer can give you that 100% assurance, even in this "day and age." There's no such thing. This becomes even more true when you're talking about complicated systems (mechanical and electrical) and thousands upon thousands of parts.

A more reasonable expectation would be for people to expect fewer problems and a better likelihood of getting a vehicle with no discernible problems. But expecting it every time? That's completely unrealistic and setting others' expectations that way is not cool.

This applies to ALL manufacturers. I wouldn't set that expectation for ANY of them. I WOULD tell people they have a better chance of being reasonably problem-free for a while with some vs others but I would never say they should expect perfection.

Just be reasonable. Don't apply hyperbolic statements about expecting perfect. From any manufacturer. Should they potentially expect better? Maybe. Depending on the manufacturer, problems, and so forth, that might be a reasonable statement. But not that they should expect zero issues all of the time. That's simply not possible today (and likely never will be) from anyone. Nobody, and I mean nobody, makes a consistently perfect product in either design, function, or reliability.

It only takes one or two issues like the transmission/radio to send the Jeep to the bottom of the list.
Those ratings do drop the resale prices on the vehicles tremendously.
This can be enough to get someone to consider buying one, as long as the price allows buying loss insurance in the form of a manufacturer based used vehicle warranty should the worst happen.

Unfortunately, this also means most buyers will take the financial hit when unloading one even if it is trouble free if done early rather than keeping it and driving the wheels off.

And people keep having issues with them even after being flashed with the latest software updates. Certainly not cheap to replace out of factory warranty I'm sure.
I don't speak for Jeep, but dirty little secret on software updates is that the engineers tend to actually inject one new bug for every 'N' fixes, where N is lower than you'd want to think.

I was exactly the same way.

Mine's been doing pretty well...then yesterday now I have a high pitched squealing noise from the HVAC fan...whenever any little thing happens I get stressed out because I worry that I'm going to start with another big list of problems...
