Re: Going to cry. Hail damage. 3 week old jgc

Thanks all for the good words of advice.
Took the JGC to a Jeep dealer in Orlando just to get some ideas as to what could be done and how much. Without a thorough examination for every dent and bump, the bodyshop mgr "estimated" about 5k to fix.

Ive spoken with my insurance co, and they've assured me that repairs will be covered as a comprehensive claim. Im going to go after them to replace the vehicle if the damage costs are greater than the depreciation on the jgc.

The way I see it, if the costs are going to be $5k and the vehicle has depreciated $4k, they're better off to buy me a new one. (Side note: I got screwed out of nearly $14k on my last vehicle, after being t-boned by a texting-while-driving soccer mom. The insurance co wouldnt write off my Lexus, instead they sunk $14k to repair it, claiming it was still worth $23k. Dealer offered me $9k while it was still in their repair facility.)

I'll post some pics asap. Unfortunately, I've only got my blackberry down here, so pics may not be that great.

LOL. I want a solid gold Ferrari too, but that's not going to happen.

Seriously, not a prayer of them buying you a new one for $5k in damage. That's just preposterous.

Re: Going to cry. Hail damage. 3 week old jgc

It might have come across wrong...

This is my thinking. If the damage is for example $7k and the vehicle has depreciated only $4K, wouldn't the insurance company save $3k if they paid the difference between the trade-in and a new jgc?

Either way, the insurance company is cutting a check. They can pay $xx to fix it, or possibly less money to let me trade my jgc in and pay the difference.

Anyway, its only a pipe dream. Doesnt hurt to dream...

Re: Going to cry. Hail damage. 3 week old jgc

No, because once you decide to trade it in. It has to be fixed and then traded. So the insurance is out 10 grand since 7 grand to fix and another 3 grand of depreciated costs. So your logic doesn't work here...

Re: Going to cry. Hail damage. 3 week old jgc

Yeah...it just doesn't work that way, then they have to sell a vehicle with a salvage title too...if you were to trade it in that condition it would have depreciated more like $15k+

You can always take a cash settlement for the damage, not fix it, and trade the Jeep unrepaired yourself but like I said, they're not going to give you $4k off what you paid for it when its hail damaged, you'll loose out on that deal.

I had a car hail damaged that bad a couple years ago. It looked 100% new afterwards and they didn't have to paint anything, did all of it PDR, including a very difficult aluminum hood. Sorry it ruined your trip, but try not to stress about it...
