Good price??

I am currently in the process of finding an Overland and received this price sheet from a local dealer. I told the dealer upfront about the TL discount and was told they honor the discount. The prices on the sheet seem a little high to me, but wanted to get your guys opinion.

Sorry if posting the price sheet breaks any rules.

Re: Good price??

Two things:

That's the same invoice every dealer is going to bring up, so with the tread lightly discount off invoice (not off MSRP), that's as good as you're going to get anywhere.

Notice that is says "can't be submitted for scheduling". I assume they dealer will take your order and get it ordered whent he restriction is lifted.

It's really saying something that Chrysler's production capacity for the Overlands has been maxed out to the point of denying orders for this long since its introduction.

The sales figues for the WK2 are going to be through the roof.

Re: Good price??

What is preferred package 25R? Mine says 25P and no additional charge next to that. Is that the summit or something? If its not a summit then its obvious it cant be ordered because it says saddle interior. I ordered my Overland on the 4th of this month for $41,225+ttl Hemi, adaptive cruise, 4x4.

Re: Good price??

First, same order as mine except I ordered Brilliant Black and no extra Mopar chrome edition group.

Second, odd that the Mopar chrome edition group is $995...that's the same price as ordering it with other trim levels except that the Summit (which is the 25R trim level) already comes with chrome fog lamp bezels so you're paying for those twice....once in the 25R trim level and again in the Mopar chrome edition group. They really should knock off $100 or so.

Third, I doubt there will be better discounting on the Summits in 2011 than the 1% under invoice (FFP). Your FFP is $46,299. What's nice about the affiliate pricing is you still get to take advantage of any new incentives that are in effect at the time of delivery.

Fourth, I don't know about "maxing out" on production since this invoice is for a Summit which as far as I know has not started even being produced beyond the few show vehicles. With that said, my build sheet only had "restriction" on the 25R and your's has it on the WKJS74 too.

Exactly, that sheet makes it look as thought he Overland is once again on restriction.

Re: Good price??

We'll see what the bottle neck is anyway....if the Overland comes off restriction first, then no harm, no foul. The wait probably will come down to the 25R availability and Jeep probably would let the customer ordered (essentially pre-sold) Summits get priority since higher margins. At least that is my hope!

Sold orders ALWAYS get priority over dealer stock orders. If there's a functional limit on the number of a certain model (supplier issues, scheduling, etc.) then they will fill sold orders first and if there is any capacity left over dealer stock orders will be filled.

I'm not sure if a dealer can modify an existing stock order and turn it into a sold order, they would be more likely to place a new sold order and let this one sit.

Another thing we don't know is what this dealer's allocation status is. If they have met their allocation then orders like this may go unfilled forever.

Allocation is a black art, unless you are a dealer GM you probably don't know half of what goes into the ordering process. One thing I've learned in all the years I've been hanging out with car people and dealer principles is allocation is a combination of everything they sell. In many cases to get that special Grand Cherokee they have to order 2 or 3 slower moving vehicles to release allocation even if it's a customer "Sold Order". It may sound crazy but it's been that way for decades.

A stock order can definately be "upgraded" to a sold order. That's how I got mine. The dealer had one scheduled, wasn't in D1, changed it to sold and it was in production within 10 days. Even had my name on the factory sticker when it arrived

Understood but it was already accepted with a firm schedule (D Status).

My dealer had 4 orders in the status above, his comment was, and I quote, "These are basically canceled. They will only get built if things slow down towards the end of the production run".

That's exactly how my savvy dealer explained it to me. He was able to piggyback and modify an order of his that had already begun the process (albeit at a very early stage). Of course, I wound up bailing on that order and will be getting a full deposit refund, but that was my play at the time. This dealer is one of the bigger ones in DC and they had a $*&@-load of WK2's on their lot when I went to talk to them (just none in my required config).

Re: Good price??

Yup I to can vouch for the converting a dealer order to a sold customer order. The night I went in to order my Overland I originally wanted Saddle. Found out it wasnt orderable anymore, so they located a saddle interior Overland that was ordered for dealer stock. It was black exterior which I didnt want so I slept on the idea and ended up going back the next day and just ordered one from scratch for myself. But yes they were going to change a "dealer order" that was in C status (tentative scheduling) to a sold order with my name on it. So yes that can be done just not sure if it has to be in the early stages or what. As mentioned they also confirmed a customer sold order always takes priority as well. I know this has all been stated but I just wanted to confirm that information.

Re: Good price??

I don't think car makers force cars onto dealers like they used to with the just in time and better logistics systems they use now. I have a friend who is the top accountant at a Subaru dealer and has been in the car business for decades and had told me how dealers used to be at the mercy of the factory but a lot had changed in the last 20 years.

I think a lot of it is BS today with some dealers saying they can only get X etc. ... the car makers will make what the dealer wants and is selling. The dealer is closest to the customer in it's market and car makers aren't dictating and dumping like before. There's just too much competition today.
