I negotiated the following for a 2015 limited with sunroof and nav.
MSRP
$42,230 including the $995 freight charge
My price - $36,607 plus tax (on the difference between the new car and the trade in) and tags. (Includes the $995 freight charge and the processing fee was waived)
I would be trading in my 2014 limited V8 which I can get $33000 for.
Seems like a good deal to me, I continue to make the same payments as I do now and get a car thats 1.5 years newer.

What's the price without the trade? There's two numbers, the price of what you're buying, and the price of your trade, I always think of them as separate deals. Make sure your discount on the new one is good, then off comes the +$ of your trade.
I am getting an Overland today, working on it since last week but got to the number fairly quick last week, and I ended up 9.5% below MSRP, and 5.9% below invoice (trying not to fudge for your benefit). It's easy to say 10% off MSRP, 6% below invoice, but I didn't quite get there. And that is before any incentives or my trade.
Apparently 5.5% below invoice is a great deal for the group buys listed on here, so I think I've done pretty good. Paperwork tonight to see if it all comes true.
So I don't know how your trade figures into your discount, but there's the %s of a good deal in my opinion (as in a deal I am actually making). Ideally YOU just have to think of your deal as a good deal, as geographically and model availability, and your local dealers, all factor into the price you can get. I'd suggest TrueCar as a baseline for a "good" deal, which so far I'v done better that what they listed.
thanks, I definitely did the deal for the new car and the trade separately. I think Im getting a great deal. sale price including fees is 13.4% below MSRP. Do you mind if I ask what the final sale price was for your overland. I was initially going to upgrade to one but just couldnt get the price down enough.
I have not seen the paperwork yet, but final price should be $42690 before tax, off of $47190 MSRP, but also before any trades or incentives, also not including the $500 cash incentive, and so on. I have stated the number repeatedly and I don't expect a run around especially because I can say "How many times did I say $4500?" and I have dealt with the salesman and dealer before... but again, going to see it in writing tonight. Your 13% deal makes me think I should have done even better... hmmm... I will post final numbers in the next few days for everyone's benefit, good or bad.
Actually ended up getting it for $36207+$333 processing+$68 tags. Not bad when I can give them a 2014 and get a brand new car and pay less per month. This was from the same dealership as the DC group buy but you can definitely get them for even less than that price.
MSRP - $42300
Price - $36207 (15% off msrp)
Even got $32,700 ($200 above kbb) for the 2014 limited trade in.

No doubt, you got a good deal.
But I would not use "Lower Car Payment" per month as a Metric to be a Net Gain or Loss on the transaction. Depends on the size of the loan and how much you put down (or traded) on first vehicle !!
Im usually someone who trades their car in after about 3 and 4 years. With this one it had only been 20 months but the numbers just made sense to do it. Didnt really lose any equity over the 20 months and the deal I got on the new one just made sense to do it now. It is the same car but the extended warranty starts over, get new tires, get to get rid of all of the little dings and dents on the old one. I know it seems stupid but I really dont think it was.
No it doesn't sound stupid and I'm not one to talk as I go through cars like crazy. Hopefully that will change though now with my newly purchased '14 Grand Cherokee which I hope to have a long while.
