Goodbye HEMI, Hello Ecoboost

After numerous problems with my Jeep...quadra-lift issues, sunroof rattle that has been fixed; yet returned again, two liftgate shorts, rear passenger lock fail (could've had stuff stolen for a month straight), leaking sunroof, air conditioner issues, vehicle shut offs at stop signs (3x), and traction control random shut offs (2x)...I just purchased a black 2012 FX4 F-150 ecoboost supercrew with the sick appearance package.

With year-end incentives and employee discounts I got a heck of a deal... $60k truck for $45k. In fact my loan payments will be a bit lower. Blackbook on my 2011 jeep with 38,000 kms was around $37k and they gave me that. My loan was close to that so I swallowed around a grand to purchase new again. I've had one 2006 Overland before with no problems, and the 2011 Overland was the greatest thing when I purchased it in October 2010 (honeymoon phase). One problem started a few months later, then other ones surfaced. It's all fine and dandy under warranty but I got so frightened for the day my Jeep came off of warranty. I'm so sad about this but happy at the same time...bittersweet I guess. I figure I'll drive this truck for a few years, pay the loan off fast and hope for the 2015 redesign of the Grand Cherokee or something; I'll buy the 2016. In the mean time I will use this truck for off roading, storm chasing, aiding in the landscaping of my house (sand, dirt, gravel), renting a truck camper, tossing in the bikes and hitting the trails and so on. I spend most my work days in the city so I'll probably save a bit of cash on gas since it's a V6. I got 12 mpg with the hemi in the city; lower in the winter. Should improve that by a few.

Overland hemi, I loved you...but you hurt my feelings. I had to move on to something more reliable and tested. In hindsight I should've maybe waited for the 2012. Dealer holdbacks woulda killed me though and I would've swallowed a lot of cash to get a 2012 Overland. This isn't over Jeep.

Good luck to all of you WK2 owners. I hope you have better luck with your rides then I did with mine.

Re: Goodbye HEMI, Hello Ecoboost

I can understand you trading it in with the amount of issues you had. I did the same thing except I traded for 2012 Overland which has been good so far. I also was quick to buy the new 2011 jeep and had to go thorugh all the tsb stuff and little issues here an there. I am happy with my 12 so far and I can say I would never ever under any circumstances buy a first year model of any kind again. From now on it has to be at least in the second model year for me.

Did you have to eat a lot of cash to trade up? I would have rather traded up but the cost of a new WK2 now is more then the 2011s were for some reason plus there are no incentives on the Overlands...I would've probably carried $12k over to the new loan. No thanks!

Not really... I went from a 2011 Hemi Overland to a 2012 Overland V-6. The 12 has the adaptive cruise and blind spot system. The sticker price was almost the same for both. So I drove the 11 for a year and the whole deal probably cost me 5K. I really like this jeep so If I would have went with someting else I know I would not have been happy and I know I would end up trading that in.

$5k is a lot for me...I don't think I could've done that. Good on you though for ditching the '11 and getting the '12. I just wish I would've waited for the '12. My '06 Overland had another year in it for sure lol. Oh well...live and learn... lesson learned: never buy first year redesign ever again. For my '12 Ecoboost, it's the second year of the Ecoboost so I should be good haha.

Re: Goodbye HEMI, Hello Ecoboost

I paid 39.6 plus tax title license for my 2012 Overland V6 with adaptive cruise package and saddle interior. How much more were you thinking a 2012 was gonna be? You just have to buy from a large city with tons of dealerships and from a high volume dealership that is all about getting vehicles sold.
This Jeep has been trouble free and I love it!

Re: Goodbye HEMI, Hello Ecoboost

It probably costs close to $5K a year for the first couple years of ownership for just about any vehicle that lists close to 40K, regardless of what you get into next.

My neighbor's econoboost F150 Ford was nothing but trouble, he ate the depreciation and traded it in on a Cheby a month ago. Every manufacture makes a troubles vehicle now an again, I think.

I'd say I hope to see you back soon, but that would mean you have trouble with the Ford...

A good friend of mine uses an eco boost to tow a car and trailer, its awesome truck, great technology and quite efficent. Good choice and enjoy the new truck.

Good deal for you. You got an excellent trade price, and new purchase price. Is your new truck a Limited? I would hope so at $60K sticker.

Re: Goodbye HEMI, Hello Ecoboost

WOW...an F150 is $60K? $45k is a good deal it seems...but what is the loss after driving it off? If its like some say on here...your $60k f150 is now worth $35k

Re: Goodbye HEMI, Hello Ecoboost

I was thinking about that trade but like the SUV more than a pickup with 3 kids. I would trade up for a Raptor in a heartbeat though, just can't get a great deal on one.
