Do you have any idea what the part # is for the fob you have pictured? I'm assuming it came with a 2011 Grand Cherokee not a 2012. They may have superceeded the part # to the newer less capable 2012 fob without the rear flipper glass opening feature.

Re: Got Key Fob to open Flipper Glass

By the way just for those people who don't know when you press the button the glass does not open all the way it just unlatches it. No rain should get inside. Also there is a warning light inside the car when the flipper glass is unlatched.

Re: Got Key Fob to open Flipper Glass

Easiest way to pry the fob open is to pull the metal key from the fob and then pry inside that area. There is a gap there that is bigger than the ridge around the fob.

Ok here's the deal the 2011's came with the rear flipper glass button on all FOB's; the 2012's for some reason do not.

If you would like to have this feature on your 2012 FOB you need to buy one with the rear flipper glass opening feature button (lower left) on it. The Mopar part # for this FOB is 68051666AB which superceeds to part #68051666AE MSRP $151.00. You can get this FOB online from any Mopar parts distributor for ~ about $110.00. You will have to have a dealer program this FOB along with all other FOB's you have all at the same time so they all still work to start your Grand Cherokee with a Star Scan tool.

The less capable 2012 key FOB Mopar part #56046735AB without the rear flipper glass button has a MSRP of $71.35

Re: Got Key Fob to open Flipper Glass

Sounds like a major expense to alleviate just pushing the button on the tailgate.

Agreed. I actually might be willing to pay the expense if the glass lifted up like my Liberty's did. But since it just unlatches, then pressing the button on the tailgate is no different than pressing the button on the fob, imo.
OK, sure I can unlatch it when I'm 20' from the car instead of 2', but that gains me nothing.

For what it's worth, we just picked up our 2011 Overland last month and our key fob does NOT have the rear flipper glass opening button. We have panic, lock, unlock, remote start, rear hatch open. The bottom two squares are blank, solid plastic.

So maybe it's less about the year of the vehicle and more about build date? Can't say for sure, but that's what I've got here.

Okay, fair enough.
But now here is another question - If you buy the FOB with the flipper glass feature button on it, and get it programmed to your 2012 vehicle, will you also get the feature where you press the unlock button twice and the windows roll down?!?

If so, then I think these two features would be enough to make me spring for the $110.00

Re: Got Key Fob to open Flipper Glass

There is another thread on here about how to modify your fob so it can unlatch the flipper glass. It involves removing an insulating washer under the blank button on the left side. It is a simple fix if you want that feature. The auto rolldown feature, if available, would have to be programmed with a scan tool.

I think it will, but I haven't tried yet. There may be an additional star scan programming sequence to activate the window roll down feature on 2012 models but I'm sure the software is there, it just needs to be enabled as stated by the poster above!

Re: Got Key Fob to open Flipper Glass

i just got my mopar remote start installed on my 2012 jgc laredo. is the horn supposed to honk before it starts up from the remote? i thought that was odd

also, my key fob has the flipper glass and trunk door opener buttons but since i dont have those features, only the flipper glass unlocks.

The "horn with remote start" feature is programmable in the EVIC.
