So maybe it's less about the year of the vehicle and more about build date? Can't say for sure, but that's what I've got here.
I should have followed up with a little tidbit... we got short-changed a keyfob at the time of delivery so the dealer finally ordered one. What should arrive but a fob with all the buttons (Panic, unlock, lock, remote start, rear hatch open AND flipper glass) and all the buttons work.

I can't speak for sure on the '12s but my guess is if you can get one of the full-featured fobs the flipper glass will work.

I'm not sure why the first fob we received with the vehicle didn't have the flipper glass button, but it definitely works with the other fob.

What kind of glue did you use to affix the disc from the PANIC button to the flipper glass position? I, too was disappointed that this feature was dropped for the 2012 (and some late 2011) models.

This is one of at least four changes that would have kept me from buying a new 2012 except my wife really-really wanted one.

Other features include the removal of the user choice to disable the DRLs (besides pulling the fuses from the engine compartment), non-Off-Road off road tires and a rear view mirror that I can not position out of my line of sight for reading street signs.

At least the flipper glass still opens. The new Ford Explorer has made the rear glass fixed so your only option is to open the entire rear gate, allowing all the stuff you packed in the rear to fall out when the gate opens before you can prevent any of it from hitting the ground.

Re: Got Key Fob to open Flipper Glass

I just finished modding both of the fobs for my '11 Laredo X manufactured 10/04/2010. I used Loctite Super Glue to stick the discs from the panic button to the bottom left button. Don't know how it will hold up but if it comes loose I'll try a dab of epoxy next time. Anyway, the flipper glass now unlatches with a double click of the bottom left button and, as a bonus, I won't set of the panic alarm in the campground at 11 P.M. anymore when I sit down with the fob and my pocket knife in the same pocket. Oh yeh, I used this opportunity to change both batteries since I've have had the vehicle exactly one year and they were already 8 months old when I bought it.

Re: Got Key Fob to open Flipper Glass

I realize I'm performing necromancy here (raising a dead thread), but you can now purchase replacement rubber covers for the Fobik that have the flipper glass button silk-screened on and have the contact already in place. Just ordered 2 for $7 each from Amazon. Pop open the fobik, pull the rubber cover off, replace with new cover, and press the shell back together. And Bob's your uncle!

Update: They arrived. I installed them and they just work! The rubber is a bit "blacker" than the OEM, and the white silk-screening is a bit brighter and bolder. Not an issue....

Thanks for the info. Not sure that one will work for my key, I have the key that is marked with the red X in the pictures and not with the removable back. Is yours the same as min with the jeep logo and no back opening? If so, please let me know if it definitely fits or not.

That may be a problem, as it isn't intended for the 2011-2013 model. Ours doesn't have a rear battery cover, where that unit has one.

This is the link for just the rubber cover for the 2011-2013 models. This link to buy two at a reduced price.

If you need a replacement case as well, here.

For complete fobiks with electronics for keyless entry vehicles, here. You may have to have them entered via the Starscan tool.

I have received mine and they work. The rubber is a bit rougher, without the same "polished" finish as the original, but it's not a major issue.
