Yeah my dealer pretty much only ever has Summits and Overlands on their lot. None with the Pentastar, ever.

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

Starting over sucks from a timing perspective, but it will likely work out better for you. Since this is a buy-back situation, make sure that the "special order code" for that is used for the new order to help improve delivery time.

I remember reading about this code in another thread. Do you happen to know what it is?

picked up this beauty last night. absolutely love it. everything seems so well thought-out. the shifter is great. only issue is the windshield has a crack in it, but i opted to take it as-is and have them replace the windshield tuesday. that means tint has to wait, but i'll live.

thanks to all on this forum for pointing me in this direction, whether you knew it or not. couldn't be happier.
coming back here to see when i posted this. my windshield finally got replaced Monday, 2/29. took that long to get it to the dealer. weird.

so, got the brow tint done monday and had the issues with plasti-dip re-done yesterday. hope it sticks this time.

Dealers always enjoy better profitability on vehicles they can load up with tons of expensive, optional crap. That's where the money is. When I purchased mine, it was the only 2 wheel drive HEMI Limited model in the Phoenix Metro area at the time.

Lesser equipped models are nowhere near as profitable. You can buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee for $28,000.00. And you can buy one for $58,000.00. Which one do you think the dealer would rather order, park on his lot in inventory, and sell?

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

What you say is largely true, bilt...dealer inventory orders are going to reflect what they perceive their market demand is for the most part--for their own local market. If you move around the country, you'll see very different mixes on the lots and on the road. In some places, Overland/HA/Summit is going to be in the majority. In others, Laredo E and Limited will be more prevalent. Most areas of the country likely will be more 4x4 focused, but down south, 2WD is common to find on the lots. You'll not find one around here in most cases without a factory order.

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

Another thing is a lot of these high priced fancy options sell themselves. Luxury makes people lose financial discipline. This, combined with a lot of salesmanship from the dealer.

Put them in a much fancier model priced $15K or $20K more. Then tell them, "how hard they work". Along with how, "they owe it to themselves", etc. Then quickly get them to the desk, and shuffle the numbers to show them how, "they can afford it".

All along the customer is thinking how much more he or she wants it.... Not how they really don't need it. And before they know it they're smiling and driving off the lot carrying another $20K in debt. Works every day of the week across America.

It's the same with real estate. I once had a very successful real estate agent tell me she absolutely LOVED to show houses to the wife, and if possible, have her mother come along as well. This of course while the husband was working. She knew that once she had the 2 of them hooked, the wife would nag the husband until he bought the place for her. Most men will pay for peaceful living in a more expensive home they didn't really want. Rather than suffer trying to save a few bucks, living in a lesser house she gave in to buy. There is always more to successful sales than meets the eye.

Got my 2016 today!!

I don't understand why people go to dealerships unprepared these days, all the information is there for you to make a decision. The only time I will go to one is either to test drive the car or to take delivery. I don't think anyone shopping for a $25k Laredo drives out in a $55k Summit.
All my deals were arranged ahead of time, I told the dealer what options I wanted and what price I want to pay if we don't agree I email another dealer until we agree. No reason to waste time with silly salesman, and if I negotiate an Overland for $42k and the dealer is willing to let go of his Summit from the lot for $44 then I might sleep on that...

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

I've been in sales for over 30 years, bilt...successfully, too...so yes, there's a lot that goes on in retail auto sales like you describe. But I also have to point out that "need" is subjective, so it's not necessarily fair to say something like "...how they don't really need it" since what "you" feel is a need can be and very much is different than the next guy. Need isn't always based on pure function. It's also based on emotional and other factors. That's the nature of choices.

------
rsz' I absolutely agree with you. There is so much information readily available that I just cannot conceive of going vehicle shopping ( or shopping for almost anything else, for that matter) without having already ascertained the options, general costs/pricing factors and so forth before walking through the door, making the call or sending the email. We live in a golden era when it comes to available information!
