It would seem more 'refined' to move it back to the knob vs the afterthought button.

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

I like being able to flick back into sport mode on the '14 shifter when I'm about to overtake or whatever. Having to reach for the button isn't as intuitive.

But also I hate the manual shift paddles on the steering wheel, being able to select gear on the shifter would be nicer. Maybe they will get it right on the '17.

I apologize for no pics. Hard time uploading from my phone. My computer is on the fritz. Anyway, loving my limited with hemi. I have the 20 inch wheels too. Ordered it on December 23, and got it January 27th.

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

You CAN select gears with the new shifter. The shifter has a manual position when pulled to the left. It's quite clear in the pictures on the Jeep website. As I said in another thread, the sport mode button in the 2016 has nothing to do with manual shifting.

From what I understand the start stop can only be turned off every time you start the car. I just traded in my week old 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk for my 3rd 15 Altitude. I hated the start/stop among other things. And not making the ALT anymore. My dealer had 2 16's in the lot but he was hiding them so he can unload some of his many 15's

Yes, but I have a 14, so I can't select gears on the shifter. I was saying I like that you can do this on the '16 shifter.

But I don't like that you have to press the Sport button on the console, when you want sport mode. I like in the 14 being able to flick back on the shifter to go into sport. it is more intuitive when you are in a hurry.

I don't think anyone is saying that the sport mode has anything to do with manual shifting, only that it is nice to be able to flick the shifter back when you want sport mode.

Ideally you would have both sport mode AND manual selection of gears on the shifter. Maybe the '17 will give us both.

Okay so you would think the reason why they moved it on the 14/15's is to make it more user friendly / accessible. Moving it to the dash makes no sense to me, but what do I know I'm not a car designer.....Seems they downgraded from the MY14 Limited. Single exhaust, downgraded stereo, lesser years on power train warranty and now sport mode button on dash....Watch next year they'll move it back to the shifter.

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

Oh, I get that...I'm just pointing out that for the majority of the platform lifetime, the "Sport Mode" hasn't been on the shifter.

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

there's new off-road pages? Hopefully something more useful that what the 2014 summit has - articulation and steering wheel alignment, totally useless in my estimation. not sure what other kind of valuable 'off-road' information they could provide? Perhaps a water fording depth guage like land rover, I certainly don't need a screen to tell me where my steering wheel is pointed or if I'm up/down hill, etc, etc..UGH and the total absence of pics? Love to see any changes first hand, if possible....PICS, PICS, PICS!

But all those times you drive through a river would be more helpful? Lol 97% of grand cherokees will never see anything but smooth pavement. I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions, but suspension and steering info would be more useful than water depth information...it's a car, not a boat. Regardless I never use any of those pages so don't mater I guess.

There's absolutely no need for a long shifter in automatic transmissions. Of course, that's my opinion.

+1, Me too!

Tired of my right leg rubbing on the shifter. A nice tiny rotary shifter would be fine in my mind, especially if it were nicely made like the one in the Jag. A chrome coated lightweight plastic rotary would suck!
