Not familiar with the Rotary in "the Jag," - outside my pay grade so don't go their teasing myself ! Tiny you say . . . where would you have them Put It ?
Having 2 rotary dials down on the center console would "be odd !".

If FCA did what they did with the Durango, IMHO, that looks awful - perhaps it would of been better served in a similar fashion as done in the RAM 1500's ! ?
Thus Opening up that entire area (Durango) to something in tune with what they did in the 200 !? To each their own . . . :slap fight:

I never, ever want a vehicle with a rotary shifter. Ever.

The day Jeep puts one in is the last time I'll be buying one.

I like a shift handle that lets me flick once to Drive and once to park or tick it one spot from park to reverse and flick it to drive from there.

Heck, I'll take push buttons over a rotary that makes me turn it through several gears to get to drive.

The Jag rotary shifters look like this if you were curious what they are

Though I have never had one and I like my jeep handle shifters I don't really see a difference turning a dial like the 4x4 dial selectors in our recent year jeeps or a handle automatic shifter. Seems would perhaps be ok.

The difference is, with a rotary, you always hit every gear to get from Park to Drive. It's physically impossible not to.

With the 14-15 stick, you just jab it backwards once and it's directly there - one shot and done. Back to Park? Same thing.

It's also easier on the 14-15 shifter to just tap it backward to sport mode and back again. You don't even have to aim for it.

As far as the new lever shifter, the only thing I like about it is it has the option to manually shift on the gear lever so you can choose paddles or lever shifting. It's nice to be able to choose based on conditions or preferences.

Otherwise, the new shifter is an "I don't care" item.

They weren't!! That has got to be the dumbest re-design yet! It should be fun looking for it at night on the fly! NOT!

The rotary dial is an electronic switch, just like the 14/15 stick. Until you actually try one out, you don't know how it operates. Maybe any hard spin from park always stops in D without ever engaging R or N. Maybe you should go test drive a Ram truck so you know what you're talking about. Not to mention, once it's in D, you never have to touch it until you park or need R. Any manual changes are done with the steering wheel paddles.

You cant blame that on Jeep. Electrical issues have been in the Chrysler family forever, that's nothing new.

Re: Got my 2016 today!!

That looks awful! That looks great! The stick hits my leg! The rotary dial looks stupid! I hate the one on the Durango! I love the one on the Ram! Sport Mode should be on the stick! No, it should be on the dash!...... How would you like to be the poor guy at Jeep who has the job of approving all this stuff? Like Richard Nixon once said.... "No matter what I do, I'm going to piss off half the people!"
