Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

Life happens but unfortunately for you in a place not good for being stranded. Obviously someone missed something. The fact it was likely not leaking when you picked it up but did once you were on the road does point to a incorrectly tightened line of plug. The ZF transmission fill port is on the side up high and if that came out it would blow lots of fluid out pretty fast. Drain plug is 5 times larger and would be empty in seconds so sounds like a line of fill plug.
Regardless of what it is I think a new Jeep is in order. The ZF transmission are probably not too available too.
I know that this sure doesn't instill confidence in your diesel JGC especially since we all have had great fortunate with ours...

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

Truly unfortunate. I know this doesn't help but of all the issues on the forums this IMHO is really a bad luck, rare, occurrence. Given, I did not thoroughly search for this issue but there really does seem to be very very few posts about your tranny, the 8HP70 that comes with the Diesel and Hemi. Only some about rough shifting which the recent TSB seems to have done a good job of fixing in general. Had this happened to a V6 owner with the 845RE 8spd it would be more like, "yet, another...." (i.e. millarduck above)...

Let us know if dealer says it was maybe debri? that knocked something loose/off. Could have been one of the 3/million defects if they follow 6 Sigma.

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

Wow...That REALLY stinks!

I'd be asking not only for a new Jeep, but some form of compensation as well. No way in hell would I trust some dealership to install a transmission in my brand new vehicle.

When I drove my new 2014 Limited off the dealers lot I got an ABS light. The owner of the dealership activated NAV on my 8.4A radio for free as compensation ($595).

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

Got a call from the dealer this morning.

Apparently one of the transmission cooler lines was misrouted at the factory and came in contact with the front driveline. It eventually wore through and dumped the fluid. The cooler line is, guess what, on backorder. No word if fluid loss caused any problems, but the fact that it still was able to move a little bit after pulling over leads me to believe there was still enough fluid in there to keep it alive. Probably went about a mile from when it went wacko to when I stopped and called AAA.

Good idea on asking for a gratis warranty; I though about doing that and I might just give Jeep a call.

Found the Chrysler invoice in my paperwork packet, it has the MDH: 020923.

I would tell the dealer you want a new Jeep. No telling if any damage was done to the transmission and with the line on BO no telling when you would get it repaired. Besides the dealer can't ru the paper work through that quick. Plus the undercarriage is covered with transmission fluid.

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

I would be surprised if the tranny isn't toast. Sorry. I had a line burst on a Ford Windstar (high miles) and it was stopped as soon as it started acting up but that was still too late.

I personally in your situation would be ok with a new tranny and would not push for a new Jeep. What I would not accept is a rebuilt tranny. I've done some reading on a Nissan forum about Pathfinder owners having transmission troubles after only 500 to 2000 miles, and Nissan tries all kinds of intermediate, ineffective remedies before finally putting in a rebuilt tranny (in a nearly new vehicle!). I seriously considered a Pathy until I read about the sh** Nissan was pulling.

I do think that is a smart call. You get a new GC you have to wait, you get the gratis warranty you get your Jeep back and covered for probably as long as you own it.

When Jeep was having transmission failures in their earlier GC model years they were replacing them with rebuilt ones. I'd have to wager that practice is still in place.
