Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

Called Jeep. After they called the dealer they immediately elevated me to "special cases" and assigned a case manager who will call me back tomorrow or Monday. Yippee.......

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

Glad to hear this. I had only a minor issue alignment off which might have happened getting it off the train or truck but they handled it as well as anything I have had done to my BMW or Lexus. I hope they get you squared away as this vehicle is too good to leave a bad taste in your mouth like now.

How could a transmission cooler line be misrouted? Aren't they done the same way vehicle after vehicle after vehicle? Maybe an assembly line worker from a temp agency?

I don't know. Maybe Marlon can chime in here. I couldn't see the problem area at the side of the road with it being almost 1am and skid plates covering everything. Are there clips that the line is supposed to be supported by? I really can't believe there would be enough slack in the line to be able to be misrouted, let alone move enough to contact the driveline.

Definitely a completely unacceptable defect to even leave the factory floor. I can't believe it made it out the door like that...completely preventable with a simple visual check.

Now that I think about it, I'm really lucky the thing didn't burn to the ground. Had the DPF been in regeneration at the time of failure, it would have been game over as soon as the oil hit the exhaust.

I am fairly confident an acceptable resolution is in your future but so you know. When you legally "accepted" the vehicle by signing they are on hook for hidden defects and you can legally rescind your delivery acceptance given your immediate and SAFETY related issue. Trust me, that'll get action.

Again, just wanted you to know you have an ultimate recourse should you need it.

Just make sure every other phrase you speak is "an unsafe vehicle was delivered to me, unbeknownst to me".

Pretty sure your situation is at the top of their "oh crap, we did what?" list.

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

My '03 Saturn VUE was delivered with some bolts missing from a tranny mount. I found out a few weeks after delivery when I dumped the clutch and broke the transmission case. Saturn originally told my service department they would cover a new case, but they would have to essentially rebuild the trans in-house by putting the original internals into a new case. I found this out when I showed up at the dealership with a few pizzas for the guys in the shop.

Wouldn't you know, when they got into my transmission, they found out that *somehow* there was enough internal damage to warrant a full replacement with a new transmission. The shop foreman told me he made sure of that.

Take care of your service techs, and they might just take care of you.

Personally, I would be happy with a new trans, and a comped extended warranty on the drive line in your shoes. That VUE now has 197,000 miles on it and the trans hasn't missed a beat. In fact the whole car has been excellent. Believe it or not, I'm still on the original clutch! And I don't baby the thing.

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

As for the replacement hose, any hydraulics shop worth their salt could fab up a suitable replacement. They could even go overboard and use braided stainless steel. Just don't route it the same way it was originally!

Doubtful Jeep would warranty that, though, but it could get you back on the road until the factory part is back in the dealer's hands if this backorder looks like it's going to take awhile...

I'd demand a new Jeep.

Who knows what that fluid worked into.

Who knows how long it was running low.

It might be fine, why do you need to take that risk.

Remember to ask yopur salesman the purpose of the (likely) $600 pre deliver inspection.

$600 gives them 4 or 5 hours of shop time to make sure your car is OK.

Up here we call that rust protection!

Bummer this had to happen on the way home with the new toy, but these are complex mechanical devices and someone in bound to miss a clip or not get one seated in all the way, and it worked it's way loose. Hope they get it all fixed up quickly and toss something in for the trouble.

Re: Got my new 2014, didn't make it home!

I got a call from the case manager this morning. She really didn't have much to say other than "the dealer is fixing it and the part will be here on the 10th" no matter how much I went on about it. I drafted a letter to send to her stating the only acceptable resolution is a replacement vehicle, but Chrysler's email system is "currently unavailable".
