What trim did you get - Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, etc?

If you plan on keeping it for a long time, I would highly recommend an extended service contract from Mopar only and don't buy 3rd party contracts. I believe you can buy one up to 4 years after original in service date (somebody correct me on this if I'm wrong).

Much of what you hear about is from those who have had issues but many of the satisfied customers don't complain much on the forums. I've had my 2015 Summit for going on 2 years and the few issues I've had have been addressed via software updates. The early build 2014 V6 had some tranny issues but later builds have been better.

Re: grand cherokee 2014

Any TSB's, recalls etc may have already been done. You can get it checked by giving the VIN to your local dealer and have them check it for you.

We have a February 2014 build JGC Overland EcoDiesel with 37k on it and it runs like a champ. We did have the front rotors replaced early on and also the SCR recall done. Other than that, nothing.....we love it !

I wouldn't rely on CarFax, but you can go to jeeps.com and input your VIN and find out what recalls your vehicle may need or not need. Or find a reliable local dealer and have them check it.

Your build date is on the door, or can be decoded from your VIN.

I have a May 26th build 2014 v8, that has been remarkably problem free after a small glitch when new that was resolved by a tech just hitting every power and ground connection with a torque wrench.

It has had the mirror re-wire done with no ill effects, the brake booster as well with no ill effects, and someday I might do the stupid transmission park/lock recall just to stop being nagged.

I may be lucky, or I may just stay on very good terms with the repair techs at all times.

Re: grand cherokee 2014

When you say really early build 2014 are you saying that it was built in early 2013 or early 2014? The 2014 models starting coming off the line in March 2013. There were a bunch of us that had the early 2013 built 2014 models that had tranny shifting issues and a lot of recalls but it seemed to calm down for some that got later 2014 builds.

If you do plan on keeping for a long time look into the Zieger for the Maxcare warranty, a lot of people have them (including me). They basically cover everything with a $100 Ded.

Re: grand cherokee 2014

My April '13 build Overland has been a great vehicle. Early builds did have some problems, but I believe most of those have been addressed. Istowell's link for tsb's is a great resource. You can plug your vin into this NHTSA link for safety recall info.
