Grand Cherokee is a winner....and Cherokee is too!

While a the "sharpness" of the Cherokee's front end made many people pause, it does look good in person versus the low shots in photos from the perspective of lying on the ground. I will say it could be a tad less sharp and the daytime LED running lights less "squinty".

But sales have been very good:

Sales quiet critics of Jeep Cherokee's looks

Strong sales or not, I still think it's one of the ugliest vehicles available today. But it doesn't surprise me that people buy it. Why? Well, Honda sells tons of CR-Vs too, and that's also an ugly vehicle.

Re: Grand Cherokee is a winner....and Cherokee is too!

Ugly, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. To Jeep enthusiasts the new design may seem ugly. I'm not an enthusiast of Jeep or any other brand. I buy what best suits me at the time.

Back when the first pictures popped up on Jeep Garage I thought I might be excommunicated for openly stating that I liked it, and thought it would be a great seller. Well, I'm still here and so is the Cherokee ... which still looks good to me in pictures, and better in person.

I also recall when I first joined JG that almost nobody with a prior year Grand Cherokee would be caught dead in the MY14. Some went so far as to say it was no longer a Jeep.

I have to say I thought it looked hideous at first but the looks have grown on me quite a bit. It looks really sharp in person, especially if the headlights/fogs have been color-matched to the LED's. It's a head-turner in the right way.

The Nissan Juke on the other hand...do we have a : puke : emoticon on this board?

I remember that conversation Bill. How many of the users on JG hated the new MY14 and wanted nothing to do with it. Alot of them said they will never buy a GC again. Granted it has had it's problems (some still are) but people love them. I hated the look of the Cherokee when I first saw it as well but in person it isn't bad.

Re: Grand Cherokee is a winner....and Cherokee is too!

I remember the KJ (Liberty) release and boy was that a huge upset in the Jeep world. Then I ended up buying one back in 2004 and little by little Jeep community embraced it. Jeesh, I even took her to Jeep Jamboree in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains and hit the trails with all the "real Jeeps". Although we have seen the demise of the KJ, it was an ugly Jeep that grew on me which eventually I purchased. The Jeep world took her in and so did consumers.

The 14' Cherokee is on the same path. Initially "Ugly" and "Not a Jeep". Now acceptance is beginning and consumers are buying it up.

I too thought it looked really bad at first, but it is growing on me. Definitely looks better than the new Renegade. Although, that may grow on me as well. Just not yet.

My beef with the new Cherokee is the rear. Looks slightly unfinished, like it's missing something due to the empty concavity. Otherwise, I see a lot of them and they all look great to me.

How about a mounted spare? If Jeep doesn't do it, maybe an aftermarket mount will surface.

I agree.

The interior is really nice and lots of amenities.

Perhaps during the mid-cycle refresh they will adjust the front and rear a bit since those are the two items in my view that if adjusted would really make this vehicle a huge winner.

Nissan Juke.....Jeep Cherokee (current model).....Pontiac Aztek. Those are my top three all-time ugly car designs. But I will say that the Cherokee isn't as bad as the other two.

I definitely think the Cherokee appeals more to the small "cute ute" crossover segment. Most of the vehicles in that segment are ugly. The CR-V is ugly, the Nissan Rogue is ugly (although the brand new model isn't too bad), the Ford Escape is way ugly, and even the Toyota Rav-4 is ugly. The ONLY small SUV/CUV that I find good looking is the Porsche Macan. And the small Land Rover (forgot the name) looks okay from certain angles.
