Re: Grand Cherokee or Range Rover Evoque?

Don't forget the MaxCare Lifetime Warranty (service contract) available from Chrysler. Even with the cost of that, the JGC is still in the same price range as the Evoque.

Not real familiar with Range Rovers, but when I looked at the pictures, if you would take the badge off the hood, I would have guessed it was a Ford.

I was always looking at the Dynamic model. It starts at $52k. Adding the climate package, Adaptive Dynamics package, Park Assist, Sat Radio, and then the black roof and black chrome 20s brings my total up to $59.6k - that's skipping the rear seat DVDs.

I like the LR4 a lot too. I'd personally go with the Lexus GX460 over the LR4 or a brand new GC anyways.

Re: Grand Cherokee or Range Rover Evoque?

I looked up some reliability info on the evoque, seems to be pretty bad.

Its more of a looker than something to own long term.

The Dynamic model is the sporting model though, the Prestige model is more comparable to the Jeep.

GX is a good vehicle, certainly would be the most reliable.

LOL! The Evoque looks like nothing else on the road, and doesn't resemble any Ford. You can say you don't like the look, it is unique, but it doesn't look like a Ford any more than a WK2 looks like an Acura.

Have some semblence of objectivity...

Re: Grand Cherokee or Range Rover Evoque?

Fwiw, the evoque is a great looking car, but I wouldn't own one. Too small for my tastes. Now if I lived in LA, SF or any other overcrowded city, I could see the appeal. The mpg would be nice to get, but if your spending 45k + for a car and worried about saving money at the pump, then maybe you should pick a cheaper car. Good luck on your decision.

Re: Grand Cherokee or Range Rover Evoque?

No im worried that gas will reach more than 5 dollars a gallon, effectively reducing the value of the jeep.

Re: Grand Cherokee or Range Rover Evoque?

Everyone will want 4 cylinders and diesels, like Europe where the average price of gas is a whopping 8 dollars a gallon!!!

When gas was $1, that's what they said about $2.

There is always a knee jerk reaction when the price of gas goes up. But we are Americans, we want our big car, and we will find a way to pay for them and the gas.

WE AIN'T EUROPE

We've been down this road many times. The problem is after you spend a bunch of money on a gas guzzler and then trade it for an economy car, you've taken such a huge bath on depreciation, you'll never make up the loss. Dealerships can't wait for buyers that trade vehicles due to an emotional response to gas prices.

I think people should make up their mind and get off the fence. Buy what you can afford with the contingency you will have enough cash flow to cover the payment even if gas prices spike to $5.00 to $6.00 per gallon.

Do the math .. if you can't make it with gas costing $1.50 more per gallon over the term of the loan, then you're over extended.

We'd need to have a stable/strong economy for that to happen, and I'm not worried about that happening for 4-5 years now.

I can't think of a vehicle the Evoque looks less like than a Mini Countryman

Think about it this way, gas has more than doubled, and people are still buying Hemi Jeeps. People adapt.

Americans love big vehicles, and if that can continue through this recession, its going to continue if gas prices are higher and the economy is better.
