Re: Grand Cherokee REDESIGN delayed till 2018

It sounds like the new wagoneer is truly going to be a top end luxury SUV. It just might be the next vehicle I buy. I hope they still offer a Hemi in it. I think I still perfer the V-8 to a twin turbo V-6.

So why wouldn't a durango today be considered a full size since it's a stretched GC now. Because a longer GC doesn't make a full size suv. Just as a shorter full size doesn't make a Mid size GC.

In order to be a suburban/tahoe/escalade size chassis regardless of the length.
It's gonna be much bigger.

Larger suspension to support the full size full length suv. It will have to be wider too.
This is really bad news.

Keep them seperate.

GC has always been in a niche that it was one of the most capable mid size suvs.
Anyone can make a tank.

Most other midsizes are wimpy crossovers.

Re: Grand Cherokee REDESIGN delayed till 2018

ms', the industry's definitions of "compact", "mid-size" and "full-size' have really been all over the place in recent years, so that could account for the path that Jeep appears to be taking with the Grand Wagoneer and JGC sharing the same platform. And, of course, it's not uncommon for the same "platform" to support variations of certain dimensions beyond just length. It will be interesting to see what they come up with!

I agree it can get blurry on size. GC is a pretty large "Mid Size SUV".
It's really at my limit to justify.

I agree it's possible to scale things beyond just length and share some tech. But I'm just concerned.

I will be watching closely when 18's are announced and if they are any bigger/heavier, I might just pickup a 2017 to hold me over for a while.

I'd prefer a twin turbo V8 with direct injection and MDS to either of those.

Buuut, this is all good news for all us current gen owners as the resale/trade value "drop-off" is also delayed.
