Re: Grand Cherokee vs the new Range Rover Sport

I like RRs but I wouldn't want one used. I would stick with vehicles in your price range. Don't set yourself up for headaches. I personally would rather have an X5, they look like a bargain compared to a RR. And a GC looks like a bargain compared to an X5. I guess it's all about your budget and what kind of status you want to portray.

You're assuming even IF they start. Everything I've read points to Land Rovers being about as dependable and trustworthy as Obama at a press conference.

British regulations & European regulations. Remote start is decidedly a North American concept/option.

Y'all have a point. They'd have to go with "since 1947" should they want to implement an egg.

I hear roughly the same level of horror stories about both LR and Jeep GC, which having owned two GC's, I tend to take with a grain of salt. Although if I did get one that lemon'd on me, I'd dump the thing as fast as possible.
Allegedly the Ford era improved Land Rover reliability a bit, where the horror stories I hear now are more around the gewgaws like those in the GC that seem to have similar gremlins on a lot of vehicles.

Both are very nice vehicles. I personally prefer the Range Rover, particularly for long haul trips I like to take, but the preference/price just came out far better for the Jeep. Which oddly enough, the local RR dealer observed--that Jeep is cutting into their low end models around here.

MMM, different variety of beast entirely. Aimed at the poseur market, aka those who prefer to drive The Ultimate Dickhead Machine.

Most RR drivers I see tend to be quite laid back and polite. Unlike X5 ones....

Re: Grand Cherokee vs the new Range Rover Sport

I seriously considered a Range Rover Sport when I shopped the WK2.

What I liked was that the RR Sport is almost as capable as the WK2 SRT on-road, while it also comes close to matching the regular WK2 (Overland, Limited, Laredo) for off-road use.

What I didn't like was how it looks compared to the 2014/2015 WK2 inside & out. I also wasn't very happy with the price (despite the fact that you basically get the capabilities of 2 WK2s in 1 vehicle). And Land Rover reliability actually makes Jeep's look good!

So I decided to get a 2012 & then a 2015 Overland and I'm very happy with that decision.
