This is exactly right. Anything is possible, but statistically, you can expect 1 problem from a Lexus over three years and about 1.6 problems from a Grand Cherokee (after pulling out the early '14s that dragged the GC's 3-year average down). Not enough to base a decision on.
After talking to techs and service managers at a few Jeep stores, they all insisted the '15 GC is pretty trouble free (unlike the current Cherokee). Again, not statistical, but a good sign.

[QUOTE=Sleestak;1252084]People here might be biased but my lease ends one year from now on my '15 Overland and I'm curious about this new generation Range Rover Sport..

I don't know if you saw this comparison test. Not apples to apples but might help a little. Interesting in any case.

That was a very interesting comparison. I can't figure out why they're using a V6 GC to compare though. Why wouldn't they use the Hemi?..

yeah, I wondered too, but the GC's weight advantage apparently made up for the hp deficit. They said GC was about as quick.

Curiosity has awakened me. What is supposedly wrong with the current Cherokee? I'm talking about the Cherokee model with the skinny headlights that make it look like a giant insect. Not the Grand Cherokee.

Honestly, most of the time you see someone in the ditch...it had more to do with the operator than the vehicle simply because they either weren't driving appropriately for the conditions or they chose to drive when their vehicle wasn't suitable for the conditions.

We have both my JGC Summit and my spouse's Outback Limited. (and will likely have another Outback in a few months, passing the current one down to my younger daughter once she passes her test) Both vehicles have been exemplary in all kinds of driving conditions, but both have limits for sure. Knowing when to say "I'm staying home!" is part of the process!

Well they were all tired of the Cherokee's transmission issues, but also various software problems and a scattering of mechanical issues. Wasn't paying too much attention to that part of the conversation.

...possibly.... a tad.

The X5 is more of a pure sport crossover, I wouldn't risk one where I would take an Overland or Range Rover--although very few owners of any of them tend to risk places that a Honda Civic could not go.

It isn't a bad vehicle, and if one wanted a hot rod glorified mini-van to get cargo space, and excellent handling, it is a perfectly good candidate to cross-shop.

'twas a rather irrelevant comparison in my book, unless the point might have been to show why folks are moving to the Overland in place of used RRs.

The new RR will easily smoke a Hemi GC, and leave ashes all over the rug in the process. I personally consider the reliability of both to be one where if you get lucky, keep it till the wheels fall off.

The RR is in my opinion much more comfortable on long western drives, although one must marvel at the degree to which it will heel over like the Titanic yet remain on the road. If you drive roads similar to Peak To Peak, the ability to stay on the road is a must have feature.

The price/performance just wasn't there for me, but I make sure to keep on the good side of the sales folks at both dealers just in case--although when I win Powerball wednesday night, I might have to find the local Bentley dealer and see if they have any Bentayga's they would let me road test on Peak-Peak overnight...

Of course you wouldn't take it anywhere near RR or JGC territory, this is as far as I went last weekend.
