I just bought a 2014 GJC 5.7L, V-8, 4x4. It has the $795 factory tow package. Can anyone tell me if this group IV tow package is supposed to include a beefed up alternator (220 amp)?? I've read that the 220 amp one is included, but the dealer folks insist it is not. My jeep has a 180 amp one.
This was what came with it:
Trailer Tow Group IV - Heavy-duty engine cooling, engine oil cooler, 220-amp alternator, rear load-leveling suspension (not available with Quadra-Lift air suspension system), full-size spare tire, steel spare wheel, Class IV receiver hitch with seven- and four-pin wiring harness
Jeep website currently says:
Trailer Tow Group IV
$795 / $13 a month
7 and 4 Pin Wiring Harness
Class IV Receiver Hitch
Delete Rear Tow Hook
Rear Load Leveling Suspension
Full Size Spare Tire (Unavailable with some configurations)
Steel Spare Wheel
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling (Unavailable with some configurations)
You say that the listed features came with your Jeep? How do you know it is a 220 amp? Can you see a marking or stamp on it that says 220? Are the GC's in Australia equipped differently than in US?
If I didn't get the 220 amp alternator, I'm wondering if I even have the heavy duty engine cooling and oil cooling features. Not even sure how a owner could tell this....
Maybe they deleted it for the 2014.5 models? Its not the first time they changed something half way through the model year. When was the Jeep manufactured, Willy?
To make it tricky, I checked my March 2014 build sheet - says "BADS - 180 Amp Alternator". I have a 2014 GC 4x4 V8 Summit. Not sure how my tow group differs from yours though.
Well you can write customer care with your VIN and they should be able to send you the "as built" option list. If it says "220A alternator" or if it doesn't they can answer questions about the option mix
After comparing the Standard features on the Jeep site, and looking at several trims at my local dealership, here is what I found. Anyone correct me if I missed something.
Laredo, Laredo E, and Altitude:
160A standard, 180A comes with tow package
Limited:
180A standard, no other options
Overland, Summit, and SRT:
220A standard, no other options
Thanks South. Would you mind posting the link to the Jeep website you were looking in please? It may come in handy with other questions I might come up with.
Sorry for my earlier posting about them changing things in the middle of the model year. They do do that sometimes, but I was wrong in this case.
To answer your question: there are two places. The consistent one seems to be the "Standard Features" list on the Build and Price part of the site. After you select your trim level (and 4x2 or 4x4), right above the "X matching vehicles near you" counter, is a "View Standard Features" link/pop-up.
The second place I found it, which doesn't appear to be 100% true, is under "Shopping Tools," called "Model Compare." I clicked on the "Detailed Chart" option for the Grand Cherokee, and it lists the standard alternators. However, this chart states the 220A is available as an option for the Laredo E and Limited, but no matter how I built them in the build and price tool, I couldn't get them with a 220A. I also can't find any on my dealer's lot with a 220A without going to an Overland.
My '14 Overland (March, '13 build) w/5.7 and off road package as the only added options has a 220amp alternator. On the build sheet it is listed directly below the "Trailer Tow Group IV" although I'm not sure it's position is related. The tow group was standard on the Overland.
The code for the tow group is AHXP and for the alternator BAJP.
Ha. They gave me a hybrid alternator/flux capacitor so I can travel back in time! Sorry for the typo, not enough coffee and "listening" to my wife. 220a
