Haggling for a 2012

Hello,

I have been eying up a used 2012 Laredo.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee LARE Madison WI 5582842

$25,616 - 18k miles.

This is the same dealer that two years ago I purchased my current 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for $19k out of door with 34k miles.

I know the newer WK models will be more expensive. And the fact that it is two years old and under 20k miles is also a bonus. It is also under the market average by about $4k.

Don't want to appear cheap or look cheap, but I am. Anyway the dealer will lower the price if I haggle? Is it even possible to haggle with a vehicle that is already this 'cheap'?

I'd be more inclined if it came down to around $22k but that is probably wishful thinking.

Make them an offer, the worst they can do is say no. With it being this close to year end they're trying to move inventory so you never know. That looks like a nice Jeep with low miles, good luck to you!

Totally agree. They'll want to move it before they have a 2012 in 2014. It's costing them to sit there.

Re: Haggling for a 2012

It's weird.

The same dealership has another black WK2 one year older (2011) with MORE miles (38000) and it's $200 less.

Doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Haggling for a 2012

Both seem overpriced as you can get a new 2014 Laredo for $30K.

Janesville, WI 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo New SUV Rockford, IL Madison, WI Frank Boucher Chrysler Dodge Jeep VW | 14J111 | 1C4RJFAG4EC280921

I got my 2011 new at Frank Boucher.

Don Miller also runs the base Laredo at that price, which is what you are looking at Used at Zimbrick. Don Miller only seems to have 1 in stock at the moment which would be why they aren't advertising it currently that low.

Is 1 year really worth $4K or they are only giving you 22 cents/mile. Leases charge 25 cents/mile when you go over (so they are at least $500 high).

Edmunds shows $24,800 for the 2012 used with 18K miles. I would offer $23K and you can probably buy for $24K.

Re: Haggling for a 2012

I was looking to pay in cash and buy it outright.

I checked Edmunds and saw that my 08 Laredo with 54k could possibly be valued around $12-13k for a trade in.

I'll maybe send them an email and see what they have to say...

Re: Haggling for a 2012

When I bought my '12 I looked originally at '11s but it just made sense to pay a few hundred (not thousands) more for a new '12 with the equipment I wanted.

Looks like it hasn't depreciated much either & that one doesn't have the towing package.

Re: Haggling for a 2012

I think these GC 2012 are priced way to high for a 2 (actually 3 year old vehicle depending on build/sale date). It's great for people trading them in though. However a buddy of mine recently went to take in his GC Overland 2011. They offered closer to $24.5K for it (33K miles). see them priced closer to $33K-35K on autotrader. I say if people are willing to pay that much good for the dealer. But overall these things should be closer to $27K-29K

Re: Haggling for a 2012

I am fortunate enough to travel multiple states for business. I have access to many dealerships. I try to flip the script on the dealers. They expect you to have a burning desire for that one special car sitting on their lot. I simply tell them that my choices are abundant, that I like the car I am currently discussing with them, but not enough to overpay. I do my research, determine what the car is really worth, offer it and move on if they won't bite. No emotion, no drama.

I once had a car dealer tell me that the hundreds of gleaming cars on his lot were just "pieces of steel"...commodities to be moved at the highest price possible. I thought that was honest. I decided to have the same attitude. If a dealer is too "proud" of the piece of steel I am looking at, price-wise, I move on. Many more fish in the sea.

Re: Haggling for a 2012

Well I just sent the dealer an email, hopefully the next step is to get them to lower it.

Re: Haggling for a 2012

You need to get access to what similar vehicles are going for at the auctions.
Might take some work to get access to info. Once you know approx what dealer paid for this WK2 than you can start bargaining. I used to have access since my next door neighbor was in the wholesale used car business but he moved and is own a 14 day cruise.
