Re: Has Anyone Installed the Interior Appearance - Interior Lighting - Ambient Lighti

Mashie,

Not sure what's going on, but we have information which doesn't agree. My dealer believes he has one on order for me -- prepaid. Says it's coming directly from the supplier, but sometime in Feb.

@JTS97ZZ28 -- this isn't anything like a single LED. Check out the PDF instructions in my link. It's two strips of LEDs for the footwells, and several more individual LEDs for cup holders, etc, all wired into a controller box with a rotary knob that lets you select the COLOR of the LEDs. So in my description, replace "LEDs" with "multicolor LEDs."

Multicolor LEDs have red, green, and blue LEDs inside them, with multiple hot pins. You vary the voltage on each of them to control the color output. If I were trying to replace this kit with something I did myself, I'd start off with an Arduino to make the mapping from knob position to R/G/B voltages easy, but I'd still need to actually CODE that. Without coding ability, you'd need some pretty good discrete electronics ability to make that mapping smooth and pretty. And you'd still need to put it all in an installable package.

From my estimation, for what you're getting from this kit in terms of design and implementation, it's worth the $200 bucks.

EDIT: Here's a link to a guy who did just what I was suggesting with the Arduino -- but he's controlling the color from his pc: http://www.vimeo.com/2446413

Ok so its a little more involved than I thought. but why would you want that when the new WK2 comes with most of that from the factory minus the footwell ones? Plus having multiple LED's in the footwell would be waaay over doing it. I understand its dimmable, but like I said above any car with OEM footwell ambient lighting they only use a single LED and that give it the perfect amount of light. Also, not sure why you would want to change the color of the LED's when we already know the interior color of the WK2's using a tealish/green. Switching them to red would look horrible.
I dunno thats just my opinions.

Okay, so I did more research. The part # is 82212347. I called Chrysler and it's a good part #, but back-ordered.

So mods you don't like == stupid. Got it.

@Mashie, let me know if that number works at your dealer. If it doesn't I'm going to have to have words with mine about getting a refund!

I didnt say stupid, all I was saying is that there are other less expensive ways to add a real nice clean looking ambient footwell ambient light especially if this one isnt easily available anymore. Got it.

I will give them a call this afternoon. I checked on jeepparts.mopar.com and that number shows up as invalid both as an accessary or as an actual part.

I installed that kit on my 07 Patriot. I did this in 08. It works fine however, I need a replacement to the switch which I can't seem to find.

Other than that no complaints. Took a few hours to install and yes you do have to take out the center console, and there is drilling involved if you want it in your cup holders.

And now for me to replace the switch (I messed it up) I have to again remove the center console out. The way I have it is I drilled in the center console for the controls to come up as the switched is attached underneath. Only thing visible on the whole mod is the actual control with the knob by the parking brake.

I don't know if what I did (footwell lighting) and posted under a different thread is what you are talking about here... I would link that other post here but I'm on my iPhone and don't know how to do it. The thread was called Mod Squad. I can answer any questions you guys have and possibly post a write-up if there is interest... The mod took me 1-2 hours and cost me $25. Look up that other thread and let me know... Have fun!
