Has anyone seen the new paint?

Since the retooling of the paint process post Christmas, has anyone seen a delivered vehicle with the new paint? If so does it look any better or different from the paint done with the prior paint process?

Paul

I have not, however, my local Chrysler rep has and he says the quality is superior and noticeable to him.

Re: Has anyone seen the new paint?

Just wondering if anyone has compared 2014 vs Jan 2015+ builds in terms of paint quality. I ended up with a 2014 build so curious if anyone ended up noticing any differences.

Re: Has anyone seen the new paint?

I ordered mine and picked it up yesterday, 3/26/2015 build, Deep Cherry Red Crystal coat.

I washed it this morning and will clay it tonight and tomorrow.

Paint looks damn good, but when I clay it in my garage I'll be more critical.

Havent scene any defects or orange peel but once I can inspect closer, I'll let you know.

Fortunatley I got no swirls, told my friend who sold it to me, make sure they don't take buffers to it and screw it up. Fortunatley they basically have a good detailer who washes them and wipes them down with clean micro fiber towels.

Also impressed the bumpers match the rest of the paint, so in that regard, hats off to them!

I also washed the underside of it, so I can start painting underneath with some Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator and Chasis black epoxy paint plus flood all the nooks and crannies with FLuid Film.

Re: Has anyone seen the new paint?

I'm curious as well, I just ordered a new SRT and am hopeful the paint job is better. My September built SRT has a noticeable orange peel texture to it. It's not terrible, but certainly could be improved.

Re: Has anyone seen the new paint?

I just got my 2015 Granite Overland build date 3/22/15 and the paint looks much better than my 2012 that I traded in. Has lots of flake in it. No swirls and all panels look uniform

Re: Has anyone seen the new paint?

Granite grey here post retooling. Finish quality is good with orange peel that is minimal and only visible up close at extreme angles. However, 4 spots have some foreign debris that was painted over. I'm talking pinhead size, doesn't bother me all that much but mine was probably the 2nd or 3rd week with the new paint system and this is a prep issue not a paint application issue.

Never had a previous wk2 to compare but my cherry crystal 2010 wk had much worse orange peel.

Small issue but slightly noticeable hue variation with the fuel door, doesn't match up in sunlight and appears a bit darker than the surrounding quarter panel.

Re: Has anyone seen the new paint?

My March built Overland is a so-so paint job. As from a distance it looks fine but up close looks like a sunkist. But all the GC's I see on dealer lots do not look much better. Maybe that's why all the colors are metallic to distract you from the orange peel. Also build quality is a little lacking my front passenger door is not flush with rear door or with the front fender. And right side of tailgate is in a little further than the left side. All liveable things but I did expect a little better fitment of body parts and paintwork. On the upside though the interior is perfect. No annoying squeaks or rattles.

Give it about 18 months and you will see a slight color mismatch from metal to plastic fascia areas. But I've yet to see any vehicle stay color matched for any length of time.

well I have one of my Pt cruisers and its 9 yrs old now and the bumpers match the body color, it is marine blue pearl.

Anyhow I finished claying the Jeep last night and only flaw I found was a spec of something in the paint on the rocker escusion which will be covered with the stainless sill guards I bought. I will probably hit it with my buffer to see if I can get it out of the clear coat. Other than that I couldnt find anything, so quite happy. Fresh paint and no swirls!

I have a lot of neighbors and they arent car people but looking at their new cars when they get them, I am amazed at how screwed up the paint is on new ones. My neighbors across the street purchased 2 BMW X1 and Mercedes. The dealers screw em up and brand new the paint is full of swirls and the bumpers dont math the body color and other crap in the paint. I dont say anything but not too impressed.

Of course it doesnt matter because they dont know how to wash them and after 2 years the cars look like typical used ones.
