Re: hate eco mode

i love it, it's the anti-hippie indicator - it reminds me to keep a heavy foot on the gas

Re: hate eco mode

i think in my V8, if I select tow, I never see the eco suggesting 8 cylinders at all times?

Re: hate eco mode

And tow/haul, on the V8, is limited to 5th gear, does not shift to second overdrive (6 th).

In essence, what I'm reading is you can simply shut-off "MDS" by selecting and leaving it in "tow/haul" mode? Does it default to "normal" mode after turning off the motor and restarting?

If this is correct, why then would someone want to load a tune to eliminate MDS? Just run it in tow/haul mode all the time....

I've beeen driving my 1991 Cherokee Laredo in tow/haul mode and in 3rd gear since new... it has 170K miles on the original trans and still going strong.

Re: hate eco mode

If you have the V8 engine and the 6 speed transmission, if you shift to 6 then the ECO light no longer appears. Tow/Haul mode will increase your RPMs and hurt your gas mileage especially at high speeds.

Re: hate eco mode

I think the "ECO" indicator is kind of laughable in the Hemi considering how bad the MPG average is.

Some of us get very good mileage for a V8...I'm getting above 15 in general driving and about 22 on the highway. (not just measured by the computer, but also by manual calculation) "How" one drives can make a difference. On the highway, shutting down 4 of the cylinders really does help with mileage as compared to older vehicles that don't do that, too.

Re: hate eco mode

If you don't want MDS to activate, I have seen a thread that people with the V8 switched to a heavier weight oil disabling the MDS. Not sure if it works or is feasible. I might have seen ths in the SRT community, not sure.

They're the same gear. Or well, 2011 5th = 2012 6th. Mine's a 2011 so I can't comment on it locking out of "6th", but it will go into 5th gear on my 2011, So I can't imagine they'd lock the 2012 out of their top gear, consider it's the same gear.

Re: hate eco mode

I actually like the ECO mode. I have been averaging @20+ mpg, mostly suburban driving, with my V6. Looking forward to an upcoming trip to see what kind of mpg I can get on the highway.
