Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

Its a overland and my guess is it was in OR2 when running the test. If you are in OR2 and hit 40mph gives a warning to slow down to keep ride height or will return to normal ride height. It will roll if you are in OR2 and Moose it!

Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

I am not sure what startles me more, the Swedes' test results or some ignorant comments made here.

The Elch test became legendary back in the 90ies when it made Mercedes-Benz re-think and re-do their A class. It did not really matter how "correct" the tests were. What mattered was that consumers had a benefit coming off this magazine's stunt; they made the company (Mercedes, mind...) make the car safer. Not bad.

Now, on to the JGC and the elch test. Watching the various videos provided, I see the Jeep, the Touareg, the XC90 and Allroad performing the same (or similar) exercise. Let's be honest here, it really does not look good for the JGC.

What is looking good though - is to see Jeep people taking this serious, fly in, have a look and verify the data. If they are smart - and I believe they are - they'd use the input to make the JGC safer and better. Not bad, either. Not?

Looking forward to place an order for MY2014...

Any change they make to the system could potentially be MORE dangerous when you can't repeat the event you are trying to correct. This is why the magazine is irresponsible with their test as it is not scientific.
Did you bother reading what happened ?
While the test did not result in a rollover, it did debead the tyres off the rims in 7 out of the 10 tests. There is some problem there in itself as a rim on the road can result in a rollover as they tend to dig in.
There has also been no counter proof from Jeep aside form the blog post. I would not be surprised if this does not get worse for Jeep as their silence is deafening.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
Almost rolling, tires falling off, but still no roll overs! Seriously, how often do you guys perform one of these maneuvers in your driving routines. When's the last time you did an evasive moose maneuver? My last was about a year ago while going 70ish one the highway. I was testing the new suspension setup on my WK1 SRT8. It held the road just fine lmao! Scared me though. I know it's comparing apples to oranges. It's all just corporate politics, yada yada. It's not the ideal outcome compared to others but no roll, no foul. It passed its test.

Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

How exactly did it pass the test ?
If the guy had not steered left the car would have rolled !!
Debeading the tyres is also a FAIL. I do not know how anyone would think that test was a pass.

Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

I suppose, for those concerned, they can always install a bead lock system on each tire (or tyre as the case may be).

Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

Despite their statement I'd be amazed if Jeep is not looking at further adjustments to the ESC system. Its a very extreme test. I'll give them some time.

BTW, no comparison to a deer or 'roo. Having a 1500 lb moose coming through the windshield is not an option if you want to talk about it next day. Luckily rare around here, but a bit further north different story.

Yes I did read that. Hard to say if it is a problem or not. Again, how many occurrences of this have happened in real life?

The test is statically irrelevant with all the variables they are NOT controlling. So it really is just an opinion on whether they feel the car is safe or not.

As I stated in my original post, I appreciate the tests including an article and letting Chrysler respond. What I think is irresponsible is to not include a response from Chrysler (prior to releasing the article) and making a statement that the car is unsafe. They can't actually prove it. Just present what happened in your test drive (no different than if the car needed a warranty repair while you were testing).

A good journalist would actually have gone and gotten data from insurance companies, done follow-up tests and requested data from Chrysler warranty repairs to see if this is a real problem or a perceived problem.
