Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

Journalists never let the truth get in the way of a good story, but this magazine has been doing this same test for years.
The car was not overloaded, it was loaded up to the Jeep specs that it is sold in the EU with.
As for real world proof, I can think of many scenarios that would result in having to swerve to avoid.
I agree that there should be more evidence if this is a problem, as I would expect a few cars have turned turtle when carrying out this maneuver.
I just hope Chrysler show us some counter proof or release a fix if there is a problem.

Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

just install wider wheels.

End of the story and solves the problem

also this is a suv who is going to drive a suv that way at speed 60m and turn like that?

Compared to other cars like VW and Volvo they are already Cross Over based not SUV.. They are lowered more than the Jeep Grand Cherokee if you look at them. That is why it is safe to drive them at 60m and turn the car like that!

I'm sure, none of you guys would like to do such a thing while they are driving..

The car nearly rolled under 40mph

I don't know. Sometimes I weave through cars very quick and my WK2 is always under control.

Well I thought about this many times you know. I felt like trade my car with an SRT8 at the dealer!

They welcomed me many times and they told me if you like we will reserve your SRT8 and when it is hear we will swap it for you and you will be the difference in the price!

I don't know how the SRT8 drives! I sat in it at the dealer while it is showing and I felt it is pretty harsh and stiff to drive. I'm thinking to go back and ask for a test drive! maybe it will handle like a luxury car when you first drive it!

Its not that we would like to do something like that or, that we are out driving like that. Its the fact that "IF" we get into a situation where we have to make an abrupt maneuver, the vehicle almost rolled. I just bought a 2012 JGC Overland two weeks ago, and that was after I saw this video. The vehicle is amazing, but I know it has its limits. I just hope I never have to see them in a situation like this. And take it for what its worth, seems to be some magazine hype to stir the pot up if you ask me.

It's not the car, sure it has it's limits and something can be tweaked, it is Chryslers behavior to put everything under the carpet that annoys me.
Blaming the magazine, no public explanation then the test was wrong etc.
What is the big deal to clearly explain shay and why it happened. I think that would calm everybody down

The test is statically irrelevant with all the variables they are NOT controlling. So it really is just an opinion on whether they feel the car is safe or not.

As I stated in my original post, I appreciate the tests including an article and letting Chrysler respond. What I think is irresponsible is to not include a response from Chrysler (prior to releasing the article) and making a statement that the car is unsafe. They can't actually prove it. Just present what happened in your test drive (no different than if the car needed a warranty repair while you were testing).

A good journalist would actually have gone and gotten data from insurance companies, done follow-up tests and requested data from Chrysler warranty repairs to see if this is a real problem or a perceived problem.
Insert Ralph Nader's hit piece "Unsafe at any speed" here!

Why doesn't everyone realize that the "Swedish Chef" who wrote/edited/published this BS test was actually trying to pump up sales for the home team (Volvo??)

The actual answer is "DON'T OVERLOAD YOUR JEEP AND DO STUPID STUFF"!

Never heard of a Swedish Touareg or A6 Allroad. What about German, say, part German, part Slovak? Anyways, XC90 has been on the market for 10 years, soon to be replaced. No match for a WK2 (for many reasons).

Anybody recall the (apparently very similar) stunt that autoweek.com did when Jeep Liberty was launched in 2001? How did that turn out?

Re: Have you seen this? Moose test

I think that in a real life this kind of situation is very, very rare.
And I'm not trying to defend the car because I own one.
But... This is in our blood, it's an impulse - to brake when something is crossing the road.
This test was taken with constant speed in every critical moment - of course the result isn't satisfactory (especially comparing to other SUVs) but as someone said before: we don't hear about GCs rolling over all the time...
Thats probably because in situation like this - a driver will indeed turn rapidly but with his foot glued to the floor on the brake pedal...

Mmh, just wunder why some people are defending 'their' car by calling the test BS. Agreeing that there are a lot of variables but that's why you do several runs.
Anyway, we (the owners) shouldn't fight over the test but rather demand some answers from Jeep/Chrysler what the real issues are.

I think CR got it quite right: http://news.consumerreports.org/cars...consumers.html
