Here's another vote for the Chicken Corners Trail.

I went out there in the afternoon, spent the night out there, and returned to Moab the next morning.

I'd plan a whole day.. I remember it taking me a few hours to get out there. But, I did stop a lot along the way to take pics.

If you don't have time to order Wells' book, you can find it at the visitor center in Moab.
Chicken Corners is nice but it's an in and out. I prefer to drive through and not have to back track. With that being said if you'd like a nice drive through, you could go north of Moab and start at Gemini Bridges. Take it to 313 and turn left. Then take Longs Canyon out to 279 and turn right. Then you'll go to Potash Rd to the Shafer Switchbacks and end by the visitor center in Canyonlands. I can give you more detailed instructions if you'd like, but that is a good drive that doesn't have you returning on the same roads.

As an added bonus, they are filming the new Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp in that area. You'll actually pass one of the sets along Potash.

Just double checked my book and I was wrong about Chicken Corners being an in and out. You can continue past CC via Lockhart Basin. But, it's rated Difficult and adds 6 hours to the trip.

So I'll stick to my recommended route. :P

Re: Headed to Moab - Need input!

Bump.

Living in Denver, planning on a trip out to Moab sometime in the near future. Not 100% dedicated to off-roading, but would like to get the Jeep to a few "scenic" spots and drive on some of the slick rock. Also plan on taking some time outside of the Jeep to explore (on foot) the "fiery furnace" trail in Arches NP.

That all said, looking for recommendations on trails to choose in the Moab area.

I have QTII, but still have the 20's on the stock Fortera's. No skid plates. I've done a few light off road trips (Mill Creek Road at Vail, CO; some branches off of Coffee Pot Road near Glenwood Springs, Loch Lomond trail in Clear Creek County CO). Nothing too crazy, but the Fortera's didn't seem to experience any issues.

Suggestions? Photos from other trails WK2's have accomplished in that area? Other sites/activities (jeep or non jeep) worth experiencing while there? This would probably be a weekend trip, leaving Denver on a Friday afternoon and getting into Moab that evening (350 miles, 5.5 hours) and just relaxing, doing the off-roading and Arches stuff on Saturday, then some shorter things on Sunday before heading back to Denver.

Thoughts? (Sorry for the long post)

Also, will most likely be doing this solo (meaning my Jeep only, with the gf, nephew, and possibly the dog).

Re: Headed to Moab - Need input!

Yup, Gemini bridges and Shafer switchbacks (saw set of lone ranger) are good trails. The guy that did the Wells book did Fins and Things in a grand cherokee. When I went I still had a JK Unlimited so Gemini and Shafer were easy, but Fins had parts that need good approach and departure angles.

Moab is the coolest place I have ever been. I can't wait to go back the WK2.

Now I have some questions for you. Any good trails near Denver? I have family near there and travel there relatively often. Over Memorial Day we are spending about a week in Salida, any recommendations near there? Will the weather be good for trails?
