Heated Seats / Wheel ??

Our Jeep is equipped with the heated seats front and rear. As well as heated wheel, and a rear window defogger. Why, I have no idea. It certainly isn't something I would have ordered. Especially on a Arizona car.

Be that as it may, the vehicle came with them. The other morning it was 33 degrees out, (the coldest it's been since we bought it last April), so I decided to fire up the seats and wheel to see if they worked. I turned both front seats on, along with the steering wheel heat with the touch screen. They all got warm much faster than I thought they would.

Satisfied everything was working correctly, I shut them all off, and went on my merry way. When I came out of the store and remote started the engine with the key FOB, everything, (seat and wheel heat), came back on automatically. So I shut them off again. A while later my wife took the car and the same thing happened to her. All I ever did was manually turn them on and off once, now they're coming on every time the car is started.

So yesterday I dug into the 453,792 page owners manual, and found the 2,567 page section on "Electronics" that tells you everything except what you need to know. (No surprise there). There was nothing about the seat and wheel heat that referred to automatic operation. Only use via. the touch screen. There was something about controlling it, (seat and wheel heat), with the U-Connect App. So I went into the "settings" page, and there was something about "Manual & Automatic" something or other, so I moved the check mark from "Automatic" to "Manual".

Later in the afternoon I started the car manually in the garage by pushing the "Start" button on the dash, and they remained off. I'm hoping I fixed whatever was triggered, in regards to these things working automatically, and turning on each time the vehicle is restarted. Today I'll try a remote start with both the key FOB, as well as starting it with my phone, by way of the U-Connect App. Hopefully they'll remain off. Has anyone else experienced this the first time you operated the seat and wheel heat??

Re: Heated Seats / Wheel ??

When the outside temperature is below 40 degrees the heated seats and wheel automatically come on when car is started.

If that's the case how come they didn't turn on the first time without me doing it? (33 degrees outside temp). I'm not saying you're wrong, but none of this happened before I switched them on manually. And when they turned on for my wife later in the day, it was well into the 50's outside according to the temperature reading on the screen. Also, nowhere in the owners manual, (at least nowhere I could find), does it say anything about automatic operation when the outside temp reaches a certain point.

Re: Heated Seats / Wheel ??

Was your jeep originally in the garage when you first started it, then outside later when they automatically went on?

Just to add, it explains the heated seat opperation on pages 147 and 148 of your vehicle manual, clearly spelling out how they work with a remote start.

"This feature can be programmed through the Uconnect®
system. Refer to “Uconnect® Settings” in “Understanding
Your Instrument Panel” for further information."

That section starts on page 279, and the specific part about the seat heaters is on page 343...

This rant amuses me...

Yes. But as I said, when they went on for my wife it was much warmer out, and the vehicle was parked in the Sun for almost an hour. Where it was parked wouldn't matter. We've had chilly mornings all week. None of this started until I turned them on for the first time.

Yeah, I get all that. After reading that I went into the "Settings" page and got rid of the automatic check mark. But nowhere do they mention the seats turning on automatically, or when the outside temperature reaches a certain point. This is the first I've heard of it.

Now that's really "amusing" considering my owners manual only has 264 pages. Pages 147 and 148 say zero about seat or steering wheel heat.

Re: Heated Seats / Wheel ??

If the "auto comfort" feature is selected within the uconnect settings those items can come on automatically depending on outside temperature. Is this the setting you are talking about that you have selected off? If the wheel and seat is coming on in warmer temps then I dunno what is wrong. The auto comfort feature has worked flawlessly for me. Heated stuff on in cold, ventilated seats on when hot. Love it!

And damn, you ever think about moving somewhere warmer? AZ sounds coooooollllldd!

Mine has NOTHING remotely like that on those pages? I told you page 148 in my manual discusses audio jacks and steering wheel audio controls, and only has 264 pages. All your smart ass comments aside, I can't read what I don't have.

Possibly, I'm not exactly sure how it was tagged. I did remove the "automatic" check mark. But as I said, there is nothing in my 264 page 2015 manual that say's anything about automatic function below a certain temperature.

Heated seats, (front and rear) are discussed on page 31 and 32. (Nothing about anything automatic, just the button controls). The steering wheel heat is discussed on page 33. Again nothing about automatic operation.
