Help deciding Laredo E options

Hello guys, newbie here trying to decide on the first Jeep purchase. I have been on the wall for sometime now and have finally decided to take the plunge. First of all, I would like to thank all of u for the wonderful info that u share. As a buyer, it really helps in making an informed decision. I did my research and have decided to get the Laredo E with some options... Here are my questions

1) 8.4 and 18" group - I really like the 8" display. I see a lot of inventory with just the 8" inch display but without the 18" wheels... What group or option do they belong to?

2) 18" wheels - I dont off road. Having said that, I like the looks of the 18"... Are there any other advantages of switching to the 18" from the default 17"? From what I read, 17s are cheaper, better for off roading/snow and also provide a softer or smoother ride... If there is absolutely no advantage of switching to the 18" other than the looks, I ll try to stick to the default.

3) Security n convenience group - The most important part of this group for me is the remote start. Wifey likes the power lift gate... Rest of them are just good to haves for us. I would take this option if it wasnt for the sunroof mandate... Coming from a fully loaded car, I realized that I dint care of it much. And with all the rattling issues, I would prefer not to have it.

On the other hand, the All weather group also offers the remote start, which is the most imporant part... We will miss the power lift gate, but we wouldnt mind it, if the other topions like Qtrac II, Engine block heater, Select terrain etc are a better value... FYI.. I live abt 2 hours from Chicago. If I go with the All weather group, the sun roof is not a mandate...

pls let me know ur thoughts n suggestions... It would greatly help me in chosing my new jeep...thanks in advance

I will just give you my opinion on this considering we went through the same thing back in January.

If you want the 8" radio, you have to buy the rims, the ones you see on the lots were ordered before they had that package. Now you have to pay over $1000 for the "upgraded" rims. I do like the looks of the rims a little better but I like the 17" for just a little better ride and a little cheaper tires for the future. I would have liked the security and Convenience package but not for $3000 because we don't want a sunroof.
We ended up going with the All weather group, towing package, and the cd player. We ended up waiting a long time because of that all weather group, no one is ordering that apparently. We have what I am pretty sure was the first one in the nation, you won't find any on dealer lots. I wanted Quadra trac 2 and she wanted remote start and heated seats, the cheapest way to do that is to get the all weather group.
My advice though would be to save a little more and get a limited with the RA3 radio if you don't mind leather seats. Because by the time you option up the Laredo E to where you want it you are almost at the price of a limited and then you gan things like the heated rear seats and power passenger seat and a backup camera, that last one is the thing I want most, I man on trying to add it though.

Answers: 1) only way to get 8.4 touch screen is with the 18" wheel package. Haven't seen one without the other on the Laredos. 2) as far as performance for the 17 and 18 wheel/tires, the difference would be minimal.

What would the price different be between what you are looking at getting and just the base Limited?

Re: Help deciding Laredo E options

17" wheels will absorb bumps a little better. 18" wheels will handle better on corners.

Lift gate: I have a manual lift gate and I can lift it with one pinky. The lift arms on that gate are extremely strong. imo, the only advantage of the electronic gate is when your hands are full. Then again, you still need a free hand to unlock it.

Re: Help deciding Laredo E options

I didn't know you could even get the 8.4 without the 18 wheels. um... also it doesn't say on the Jeep website to add navigation see your dealer for details.. Can you not get navigation at all on the Laredo? In any case HULK with the options you want I'd go for the base Limited. It has every feature you want and more. Also it looks like you can now get a Limited without a sunroof. Unless you just don't want leather the Limited is going to be your best route you get everything on your list. An optioned out Laredo E with what you are wanting comes to 37000, and the Limited at 38000. No brain er there.

You can add navigation to the ra3 radio for 595 or something like that after you get it.

Re: Help deciding Laredo E options

Jeep is just finding ways to get rid of unpopuar options tying up inventory by requiring to get other things. First saw that in 1968 Chevvys. Also are taking a lesson fron Buick - uglify the first years so refresh looks the way it was always intended - see 63-4 Riviera as opposed to 65.

I have the base radio and added a tablet. It does far more than the Chrysler option can and can move between vehicles. All I want in a car anymore is an aux jack.

Personally have never cared for sunroofs except as roof vents. Have a convertible for nice days & any glass sunroof has always been too hot in a Florida summer (wound up painting Fiero sunroof black).

All GC tires are the sme diameter. The more rubber, the softer the ride. Personaly like the 17" rims on my '12, guess that is why they uglified then on the '14.

Compared to the '14 E, the only option I have is the trailer towing group. Do not have power tailgate or remote start but would be nice to be able to open tailgate from driver's seat if have bearers carrying packages. Never gets cold enough here (and kept in garage anyway) to need remote start. Would be nice to be able to summon it from a parking place.

ORA is half the price of the S&A group and seems more functional/useful to me if you plan to go offroad. OTOH S&A is available on the 4x2 and ORA is not.

110v outlet is nice but a cigarette lighter 140W is $20 & 180-up needs to connect to the battery.

Bottom line, a $30k model is possible but CJF really wants to sell you a $45k up one. Lots more profit.

ps also added a wireless rearview camera (needed) and use my cell phone as a hot spot. Has anyone seem prices on the Sprint service for the Nav-Pac.

You can get the screen without the wheels, just seems its not as popular as the package http://www.chrysler.com/hostd/window...RJFAG0EC104867

Re: Help deciding Laredo E options

The AWG is a good option to have if the other features of the higher trim model is not very important to you. Remote start was one of the MUST HAVEs that I wanted when we were looking for 2012s. It came standard with the Laredo X then but I did not want to pay for the whole package when all I want was the remote start. The AWG gave me that, plus some extras like QT II, slush/cargo mats, DRL (if you're not anti-DRL), engine block heater, and tow hooks. The only drawback with the MY14 is you have to decide on the radio on purchase because it's not interchangeable like the 11-13s.
