Re: Help! FOB died??

Another thing you can do is when you get out of the vehicle with the door open push the round silver lock down manually and this will not arm the alarm. I did it all the time on my '08 WK Limited. Then I unlocked the door with a key that was cut at Wal-mart so I didn't have to carry my Fob with me while out running it was easier carrying a key than the fob....just another way that was quicker than having to insert the key to lock the door.

Re: Help! FOB died??

Same issue here with the 'no key present' for about two weeks now. Walk up to the door, touch the handle... nothing. After 10 seconds the doors finally unlock, then I get in and push the start button, again, nothing. Takes another 10 seconds before it recognizes and will crank. I replaced the battery a week ago, a new 2032, and it worked the first few times. Now the buttons on the remote aren't working unless I press them about 20 times to lock or unlock. Same problem trying to start it, I have to sit like a moron pushing the start button like I'm playing Galaga while moving the key around the interior until it starts.
Calling the dealer this morning, where I'm sure I'll get the runaround.

Re: Help! FOB died??

I had exactly the same problem that all the posts are referring to. I recently brought by 2011 GC to the dealer for other issues and explained what happened to the service writer. It turns out that the solution isn't changing the Fob battery (there's nothing wrong with the battery), it's a computer problem. My Jeep service workorder says "Found update available for keyless module. Performed flash." It's been a week and so far so good.

Re: Help! FOB died??

OK good, that's what they told me as well. The battery in the fob is only used for the actual buttons on the fob itself. You can remove the battery and the car would still recognize the fob to allow you to start it (according to the service people). He said a software update on my Jeep is needed for the fix.

Re: Help! FOB died??

I now keep 2 spare fob batteries in my Jeep so just in case it dies on me, I can easily and quickly replace the battery.

I had this problem. It was not a FOB battery problem. From another thread on this subject, the answer is to just open up FOB, take battery out for 30 seconds, put it back in, and walla, it was fixed. Search the forum if you dont want to take my word for it, as there are answers here.

Re: Help! FOB died??

Update:
Tried the 'answer' listed above this post and it did NOT work. Ultimately had to take it in to the dealer, who gave me two new keys. They were unable to give an explanation.

Re: Help! FOB died??

The RFID technology in the key works regardless of the condition of the FOB battery but the FOB must be inserted in place of the Push-Start button. So, nobody should ever worry about being stranded if the FOB battery gives up the ghost. Pulling out the Push-Start button and inserting the end of your FOB enables the system to recognize a valid key and start your vehicle in an old fashioned way provided your vehicle battery is not discharged.

Good find, I wish I had printed that out before I went in to get replacements. It might have saved me the hour I wasted.

Re: Help! FOB died??

I didnt read through the whole thread so my apologies if I say something that has been said.
I did want to say I had an 11 Ram the other day that had an intermittant unlock operation from the fobik. Using a RF detector I was watching the signal strenght, and output from the fobik while monitoring the vehicle for anything happening. The only time the car didnt unlock, the RF detector didnt read anything, but it was intermittant, sometimes it would peg the meter and sometimes it would not read at all... It got a new fobik.

I would try a second fobik and see if it continues to do it.
