Re: Help! Is this a good deal?? 2014 Summit

Curious why would Jeep buy back the car if it was just the Audio?

Re: Help! Is this a good deal?? 2014 Summit

Here is what you should be asking: "Why did you have to buy it back for a RADIO problem?"

I had a radio problem in mine -the antenna Amp went. They offered to replace the head unit first (before they knew it was the amp), and when they had her opened up saw it was the amp and replaced that too. At no point in this process was there a "You know, if it's just too much trouble, we can just buy it back from you..." - they fight those lemon laws HARD!

Just my 2 bits...

The uconnect app tells the service history of the vehicle. I'd look into that for sure.

I'd also do my best to make sure the dealer includes a warranty at no extra cost. ESPECIALLY since it's a buy back. That's a must have.

Re: Help! Is this a good deal?? 2014 Summit

Yeah I actually just called my local dealer where I bought my current Overland and told them of the vehicle I'm looking at and gave them the VIN on the Summit. They are going to look into it for me and let me know if I need to be concerned.

Don't touch a buyback unless it's stupid cheap. It will carry a branded title which hurts the resale value down the road.

Yeah, everyones comments got me worried so I just called the Summit dealer back and asked why specifically the Audio caused it to be a Lemon. He went and pulled the report and said per the notes it says: Radio was inoperative at times and also when trying to use phone, message would appear stating phone does not work.

He said, during the time they could not find a way to fix it but since have through software updates and the issue is now resolved and working fine.

I asked why would Chysler just buy something back that easily... the dealer said "you'd be surprised what customers claim to be a lemon, sometimes they just no longer want the vehicle and want out and claim little things as lemons". He also said... "Chrysler is about having happy customers and if a customer isn't truly satisified with the vehicle because of ongoing issues, they will buy it back to prevent any further conflicts to retain a postive relationship".

Not sure how much of all that was BS, but hopefully it really was just a minor issue and that the Audio was the only thing wrong.

I'm still waiting a response from my local dealer on the VIN check to see if they find anything else, I will update you guys when I hear back from them.

This is also something I am worried about, but I figured with the drop in purchase price that it would offset the resale price later. Basically they are offering me a trade of $38,000.00 with $5k cash for the Summit. So I'd be buying the summit for $43k. Does that sound like a good price??

I could see what they are saying as potentially believable. Im not sure how long you have had your current GC but last spring/summer there were a lot of angry people with radio issues some had 2 and 3 radios replaced. Many issues probably attributable to early version software. probably not to hard for someone to go back 3 or 4 times for same problem and not have it fixed. Next thing to ask is when was the buy back last month or last summer? if it was last month then something doesn't sound right because most of the bigger radio issues have been resolved for a while. See what your dealer has to say about it. Maybe they can print you out the maintenance history on it. Their computers have the detailed history not the nebulous 3 word explanations that the owner connect website shows.

Re: Help! Is this a good deal?? 2014 Summit

I too think that a buyback for just the radio is fishy. Chrysler did a buyback for me because of an engine problem they couldn't correct. I was told that if they fix it the law states that any future purchasers must be informed that it was bought back.
Personally, I would stay away from it.

If yours is running good with no problems keep it and feel very lucky. I have radio problems and I wish they would buy it back. 30 days out of service for radio problems. In this jeep radio problems can mean a lot of things. Run like a bear is chasing you.

Re: Help! Is this a good deal?? 2014 Summit

I had a 98 JGC go back under the lemon law for a major drivetrain vibration that couldn't be found and fixed. The very first thing they did after I handed over my keys was to immediately place a huge manufacturer buyback sign on the windshield and driver's window.

At the time, my state did not require title branding for a manufacturer buyback. Basically, they shipped the car out and I'm sure it was sent to another dealership and resold.

I also find it hard to believe this was a buyback due to a radio issue. Like others have said... look into this closely before you buy.

Re: Help! Is this a good deal?? 2014 Summit

I agree with the others here. It sounds fishy to me and it seems as though the dealer is blowing smoke up your backside. I could be completely wrong though. If it was me, I wouldn't go for it. Probably not what you want to hear from us. Just be careful.

Re: Help! Is this a good deal?? 2014 Summit

Thanks everyone for the feedback!! Good news I got a call back from my local dealer who did a VIN search on it and they said based on the records it shows that the Summit was in the shop 12 times... all mostly for the Radio and a couple times for a transmission flash. So at least per his findings, it truely is only an issue with the Radio as far as we can tell. I'm not too concerned about the transmission flash as I had to have it done on mine as well for the shifting points being off. (I think that was normal across most Jeeps)

So far, my Jeep has no problems so I am a little worried about possibly getting one that does have problems, but they said the issue has been repaired and the Jeep is still under factory warranty so if something does occur, they will still have to fix it like they would any of our Jeeps under warranty.

I am actually going to stop in tomorrow and test drive the Summit and I am going to check EVERYTHING from the bottome up, from the engine performance all the way to the sunroof. Especially the radio!!

I am cautious about this but having my local dealer report it's history and not seeing anything to significant makes me feel a little better. Hopefully this ends up being a great deal for me, and not a future headache.

I will think more on it tomorrow and appreciate all the feedback from anyone!! Feel free to share more if you have thoughts.
