HELP-little black ANTS

Have invaded my JGC. They are both inside and outside. I'm afraid to use a spray for ffear of it damaging the plastic, leather, paint, etc.

Any suggestions?

Dan

Re: HELP-little black ANTS

I would start with some ant bait traps, that would keep you from spraying chemicals on the inside but hopefully will attract and catch them.

I don't say this to be mean but my suggestion is to stop eating in your Jeep. Also check to see if any of your carpet is wet and holding water.

Re: HELP-little black ANTS

Wow, ants inside your car?!? Either they were brought into the car by you or someone else, or these little buggers seriously crawled up the tires, through the brakes, suspension, body, through seals and somehow into your Jeep? lol
Silvermax's recommendation is a good start. You need to park somewhere else. That's crazy that insects were somehow able to make that trip into the cabin of your Jeep when there is only 4 relatively small spots where the vehicle actually touches the ground, and thats your tires.

Re: HELP-little black ANTS

I'd use Terro ant killer. Put out some liquid drops on little cardboard pieces. They'll be drawn to it like moths to light. It'll kill them and everyone back at their colony.

We call 'em sweet ants where I'm from. They are attracted to anything. I've had them swarm my kitchen even though it was scrubbed with bleach. They were getting plain water out of my sink. Crazy amount of little black ants.

Pure peppermint oil tends to discourage the little darlings.
Caution: You do NOT want pure peppermint oil on your skin and I'd avoid on plastic as well. Plus, it is a tad stronger smell than the cooking grade flavoring.

Re: HELP-little black ANTS

After moving your car away from the anthill...

Spray everywhere you see ants with any general cleaning spray - Windex all surface, or 409, or your favorite store brand. This kills them pretty quickly by dehydration and when you wipe up, you clean up the ants AND remove the trail that their fellows are following into your vehicle. Vacuum them out of your carpets, of course.

The ant bait is really effective, too, as long as you don't have kids or dogs that can get into the bait. The ants take the bait back to the hive, share it with their friends and it can kill the whole colony. 'Tho ususaly the survivors just move to another part of the yard. You still want to spray and wipe down all the smooth surfaces to get rid of the ant trails, though.

Boric acid is also effective.

I never had ants but in my 2004 jeep I ate in it all the time and it was a nightmare keeping clean and controlling ordors, put over 200k miles on it.

In my 2014 GJC i have strict no eating policy.

Re: HELP-little black ANTS

Wow! Thanks for all the replies.

To clarify, the Jeep is always parked in my garage. No one eats in the Jeep either. And, I don't think these types of ants have an anthill as I've never seen one.

Yes, they are in the engine compartment, the interior, and the exterior. No, they don't cover all of these areas but I see them crawling in and around them.

Btw, they don't sting or bite.

I'll get some of the ant traps today and see if they will kill enough of them and discourage the rest.

Dan
