Hello all.

Struggling with which direction to go. Will be the wife's vehicle, mainly for short trips around town, but would like to have off road capability just in case.

Two choices:

15 limited white 4x4 (local)
20 inch wheels
Nav
$36k
(Would add skids, hitch, rock rails)

Or

15 limited white 4x4 (not local)
Off road 2
Nav
$35,500
(Would add rock rails)

I guess the only difference is one has 20s with no heavy duty cooling or air suspension.

^^^^ My opinion as well! What is the time/travel/dealer difference between local and not local?
Also, the "right" one (IMHO) will cost far less when you factor in adding the accessories you want. Just my opinion though.

Since you are talking about wanting to add rock rails (ie more than casual off roading), the ORAII with smaller wheels, better tires, air suspension, heavy duty cooling, etc for $500 less seems like the obvious choice. As an added bonus, the taller sidewalls + air suspension equal a smoother ride for the wife! I would go with the non local one.

We have two grand Cherokees.....a 2015 limited v6 and a 2013 Overland hemi.
The overland does no ride a stable as the limited....air suspension appears to cause a rocking and rolling motion that is not evident on the limited.
The Hemi is superior to the v6, which should be obvious. When towing (factory tow pkg on the overland) I have had 4000 pounds behind the jeep with absolutely no issues. The air suspension keeps everything level and comfortable.
My next Grand Cherokee will be the Limited with the Hemi and tow package. I don't care for the air suspension, plus it is complicated and expensive
The 8" navigation on the 2015 is the best I have ever seen....does everything!!

My Summit is the nicest riding vehicle I've ever been in. It also feels like a car in the corners with very minimal body roll. I'm used to sporty cars, so I drive my jeep a bit too aggressively, but it handles everything perfectly.

Rock rails also double as great door ding protectors and steps to get stuff off the roof rack (snowboards/skis/bikes/etc). If I had a limited with the plastic rockers, I'd get the rails to replace them.

Just my 10 cents worth, get your wife to test drive both models,I am sure a local dealer will have both models(so IF you decide on the one you have to travel for, then you know to anticipate what your buying into),Afterall if it's for your good lady, see how SHE feels about driving both.
Wouldn't be overly concerned about 20" wheels, plenty available aftermarket if it's your thing.I currently have SRT rims on my '11 (only because they were available to me exceptionally inexpensive, but like the 18" with good quality AT tires),good luck on your final choice. We all own these vehicles because they are GREAT vehicles at an unbeatable price in their range, downside is,we all have our personal favorite,so ask 12 of us will get at least 8 different opinions.
