Re: Help me to not hate driving my WK2

How long do you guys "warm it up" in the morning / when it's cold? I start mine and wait a good 30+ seconds until the idle has settled down; right after starting it revs higher for a while and then slowly sinks down, I never drive off until it has stopped sinking. Maybe it's just a matter of giving stuff time to warm up...? But I also have the 2012 so I have super smoooooth shifting anyway, like a knife through butter (my issue with the tranny is a very aggressive upshift schedule; wish it would hold the rpms higher).

For as long as it takes me to have a smoke.

Re: Help me to not hate driving my WK2

Maybe I am lucky or just easy to get along with but I don't have any complaints with my '11 Laredo X V6 4x4 5 speed. It has ALL of the TSBs applied and it shifts well and the cruise is certainly not the worst I have seen. It may vary +-2 mph up and down hills but mostly it is right on. Now I will admit my wife's '14 V6 4x2 with the 8 speed is peppier on acceleration and sounds better with the dual exhaust but I am not unhappy with my '11 and I would not take the ass whuppin it would take to trade for the difference between them.

BTW, I just had the 12/05/14 tranny TSB flash on the '14 today and I do believe it really helped the clunky 2nd to 1st downshift. On the way home I did several coasting stops and very slow braking stops and I could FEEL the 2 to 1 shift but it was not a noticeable clunk like before.

Im glad to hear that about the 12/5/14 tsb. I'm getting that done asap. I wouldn't say the shifting is a huge problem but it could be improved. Hopefully this update makes it perfect.

Re: Help me to not hate driving my WK2

I had a 2012 Overland V6 for about a year and like the OP the shifting was TERRIBLE. I pretty much regretted getting the V6 until the day i sold it. Whoever approved that vehicle to shift the way it did is to put bluntly, an idiot! There was this one specific hill that I would go over everyday to work right after a stop light. Each and everytime it would shift while going up the hill, then it would realize what a stupid idea that was then would downshift back to the lower gear. It was a good truck besides that, but what a pain in the ass sometimes dealing with the horrible shifting. So along with the crappy shifting, and the fact that the 14's came out that look sooooo much better, I let it go. I no longer have a WK2 (have an 07 Acura TLS 6mt, and an 04 Grand Cherokee Overland, but someday I wouldn't mind getting back into a 14+ WK2.

Re: Help me to not hate driving my WK2

Greetings,

I have a 2011 as well that now has over 52,400 and after New Year's I might even hit 53K. I had the TSB applied once they were out it made a difference.

To be honest with the cruise control, I have never even used it once. I have driven manual many years ago and I do find the Autostick to be nifty, but is nothing compared to a true manual transmission.

The problem that the 2011 with 5 speed trans is the middle power area and Jeep updated with 8 speed. For example: I when I drive thru the state of PA on the interstate system, driving up the hills you loose power and start pressing the gas. I did find that once I install a Cold Air Intake, on my last 2 trips it helped out even better. Next I need the exhaust to even out the air flow.

Other than that, this happens to one of the best 4x4 vehicles I have had for the open road. Many passengers that have ridden with me on the highway felt they were in a luxury car, even with AT tires on. This also true when I decide to venture on the back roads.

Best for now.
