Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

Used Limiteds with 20k miles to 36k miles (about 40k km to 58k km) are priced out at about $33000 to $36000 around my area (before negotiation), depending on exact mileage and options. That translates to about $41000 to $45000 in Canadian dollars.

I've found in my area, pickups and SUVs are priced higher than other areas of the country. $38500 Canadian is about equivalent to $30800 US. For one with 16800 miles on it (about 27k km), that would probably be sold at that price in about 15 minutes in my area.

With any vehicle, the longer you wait, the more the prices will drop. However, the longer you wait, the number of vehicles available with the options you want may will also drop. I do not know your market area, but if it is anything like mine, you will be waiting a while to find one in your budget range.

That being said, I am not saying you shouldn't wait. As long as you are happy in the end, that is what matters. If you can be happy with paying over your budget to get one earlier, all the more power to you. If you think going over your budget would make you like the car less, possibly ruining your happiness with the car, then wait.

Thanks for the reply. Yah my area has lots of them actually. The kms out here are a lot lower then out there, the average here is around 25000km for a 2014. What kind of deal do you think my friend could give me on a new one? The 2015 I configured comes out to about $50000 with all the fees not including tax. I know you don't know for certain but im sure other members on here are friends with a Jeep dealer or actually work there. What kind of discount is possible? Im thinking around $5000 off?

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

Buying new was out of my budget so I bought a 2014 limited which was a previous rental with 32,000kms on it. The advertised price was at $39,900.00 which the dealer just reduced from $42,562.00. I was only able to get it down to $39,005.00

I love the vehicle and couldn't be happier.

You're not too far off from getting a 2014 with your 35k budget, have you considered taking out a line of credit to cover the difference?

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

That's not a bad deal at all. The best deal I've seen is $38500 for a black on black limited with the uconnect and 27k kms. They weren't gonna budge on price. It was at Jonker Honda and apparently they price things fairly with no huge marks ups so there's no need to negotiate. I don't know if I love that idea of marketing but I see how it could work because it was the lowest priced online. I'm sure they could do $500-$1000 if your a serious buyer kind of thing because nobody wants to pay sticker price. Im sure they got it for around $35000 give or take as a trade in. That's kind of what I'm hoping happens at the Jeep dealership my friend works at. Either that or a lease return.

How has the truck been so far? Everyone keeps telling me to stay away from rentals because you don't know how it's been driven by people. The one I saw locally that I test drove was a ex rental and it was in great condition. It was on for $39997 just reduced and he was willing to go to $39000, it had 27k kms on it.

To be honest my maximum budget was $25000 and I'm getting a little help from my dad so Im willing to move it up to $35000 to make it work. I don't want any other truck because trust me Im a big car guy and I've been looking for awhile now and nothing is nicer then this right now lol.

Now the only drawbacks are that it is out of my budget and now apparently there's a lot of problems with some of the 2014s. I don't want to move to a Laredo just to get into this truck also. I've got some thinking to do.

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

So far the only issue I had was a cold start squeal and the idler pulley was replaced under warranty.

I searched up reported problems on this forum prior to purchase, some findings did scare me but considering the vehicle is still under factory warranty and you can opt for extended warranty, I went for it.

is the 10k from your father a loan or a gift?

If it's a gift, I would say entertain the idea of taking a loan or line of credit 10-12k look for the lowest interest rate possible.

If it's a loan, is he capable of loaning you the entire difference?

That being said, I don't know how your expenses are or if you're employed, this would be up to you to justify.

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

I will be putting in $15000 and the $10000 from my dad will be a gift. The other $10000 I will borrow from him and pay back. So that's how I got to that number. I don't want him to lend me $20000 for a vehicle and have to owe him that much money. My job security is also not that great right now as its seasonal and my last day is April 30th. So I may just have to hold off. Even spending $35000 which is not peanuts on a slightly used truck which is still fairly new being a 2014 and it having possible issues is not something I want to deal with. The whole point of getting something newer is having to deal with little to no issues. Of course im not guaranteed to have problems with it and as with any vehicle you never know but with this trucks track record not being so great for this model year, I may have to go with something else. Maybe a 2011 Laredo with leather and nav? That is what I originally was going to go with and will fit perfectly into my $25000 price range and I wont have to worry about paying my dad back. I love the look of the 2014 though lol. Man this is a tough decision.

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

That's a good option, maybe Keep an eye out for a 2011-12 limited instead, they're not too far out of the 25k range and if I'm not mistaken the 11-13 limited models come standard with xenon headlights.

Good luck with your purchase.

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

My 2011 limited black on black came with the xenon and so much more. Heated front and rear seats and mirrors. The back up sensors and camera. Dual climate control that works very good. I don't have a tow kit but really don't need one. I love the Pentastar and I bought this over 18 months back for about $28500US. The only thing I would really like better is the infotainment unit as it's the RER. It works well but loading the 10GB is tedious but the sound system is quite good.

The truck was turned into a Fird dealer for trade at just under 32,000miles. I did buy a 24 month extended service contract. The wheel sensor went out on a long trip from sub zero(F) driving from upstate NY to Florida where the car and suspension was on the road 24 straight hours and part of the road was shot. Anyhow the HVAC fan has needed replacing and the wheel sensor. That service contract paid for itself.

Other than this I have done much of the service and just normal wear and tear stuff. I do need to get a rear lamp system in the future as a bulb burst put a hole in the top where rain can get in. No big deal. Be sure to change the coolant every two years as the alloy engines will have big corrosion issues but almost all newer allow engines see this same problem. I don't mind the 5 speed. Second gear is a bit anemic but you can use the gear box like a CVT manually if needed. I'm buying some SRT replica rims and 20" tires this Spring and will use the 18" just for Winter tires. I live in a heavy snow belt.

Considering everything this rig comes with, it a pleasure to drive. The only other consideration you might think of is a 2014 Dodge Durango as they sell for less. I'm not a fan of third row seating. So I didn't go that route. Anyhow I think you will be very happy with the purchase even in 2011 model year. I now am approaching 50K miles and no drivetrain issues at all. So many easy to service or maintain parts and videos here or on YouTube. You can save a good chunk of change. Look for carfax or other documentation on any used car. Most places require some disclosure of buy backs and cars with accident histories.
