Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

Hey guys im new to the forum, lots of great information on here.

Im looking at getting a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I live in Vancouver, BC Canada and right now they are going for about $38500-$42500 depending on kms and condition etc. My budget is $35000 taxes in. Im not in any rush to buy. The cheapest one ive seen so far was for $38500 plus taxes, it was black on black with the 27k kms on there and it had the Unconnect 8.4" touch screen aswell (not all limiteds have that in Canada). They were also pretty firm on the price. Should I wait for the 2016s to come out and hopefully the prices will drop a bit on the 2014s or will it not affect it by much? Do the new ones come out in November?

Also I have a friend that works at the local Jeep dealership and he told me he will get his boss to look for something as he goes to the auctions every Thursday. I also told him to look out for some lease returns or trade ins etc. I havnt asked him how much the new Limiteds would be because they are probably out of my price range and I don't want to finance or lease. Would I probably be better off just waiting for a lease return or trade in? Sometimes the dealerships get lucky and don't pay much at all for a vehicle.

Let me know what you guys think. I test drove one the other day and fell in love with it. The black on black looks amazing in and out, its just too out of my budget right now. Thanks guys!

Importing a car out here isnt worth it anymore man. My sister bought a 2008 Mercedes C300 back in 2011 from Portland, Oregon and it was worth it back then because our dollar was pretty much on par with the states. Now our dollar is horrible so it wont be worth it. Thanks though.

In addition to the dollar differences, Jeep also won't honour the warranty from a US Jeep. Don't ask me why, seems a little bizarre but maybe more manufactures are like that too.

What ever you end up with, make sure it has a build date later than Aug 2013 or you MAY be buying someone's headache that they dumped.

Although an older build date isn't a guarantee of having problems, there were some early teething issues. Some of us have been pretty lucky--either that or we are not nearly as easily annoyed--but some have had horror stories you can find all over this forum. An older unit with all of the TSB's applied might do the trick, but some of them seem not amenable to being fixed with TSBs as opposed to getting rid of it and picking up a newer one.

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

I had a 2014 and traded in for a 2015 due to several new model year problems. I strongly recommend holding off.

Old units have older ABS System that caused the XMAS tree and lacked ACC Full stop and older Radios and who knows what else. There are always upgrades fixes going on. TSB's won't upgrade hardware. More transmission problems (beyond firmware) on older builds too. Things started to settle down late in 2013. A few folks on the forum got buybacks on older builds and bought later builds.

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

The "older" 2014s had a higher occurence of issues. That doesn't mean that if you buy one, you will have the problems, it just means that you are a little more likely than if you had bought a 2014 built towards the end of the 2014 model year, or a 2015.

Our 2014 is a March 2013 build, one-owner certified used. After about ten thousand miles, only issue has been a bad horn ($25 part). Pretty easy to replace.

Re: Help with buying 2014 JGC Limited!!

Thanks for your help guys. I will look for a later 2013 build date. What do you guys think of pricing? Am I pushing it getting it to $35000 or is it possible? When do the 2016's come out and will price drop decently on the 2014s when they do?
