Re: Hemi Block Heater

For an approximately $50 option during assembly line process, it's worth it!

Not sure about the WKII, but on my WK I found it a lot easier to go in through the wheelwell - I pulled the tire and partially removed the wheelwell liner which made access much easier than from the top.

Here is a pic taken from the wheelwell location:

Re: Hemi Block Heater

Thats a good Idea I didn't about going through the wheel well. The 6.1L looks just like the 5.7L except I believe there is a heat shield that will need to be removed. Also I did crawl under neath this afternoon to look at it from a different angle and it maybe easier to do it from below. I can get to it without removing the skid plate and I don't think I will have to remove the exhaust pipe either. I will explore the fender well option too....thanks Milous...you come through once again.

OBTW...I did order it as an option from the factory but my dealer messed the order up. When I changed my order from the V6 to the V8 the dealer ordered a second vehicle as it was too late to make a change to the first vehicle. When he did that he left off the block heater. I guess its partly my fault.....so now I'm having fun installing one myself.

I agree. And now I'm left wondering why, for $50, would anyone in a cold region NOT order one? It was the easiest block to check on my order form along with the $250 ORAII package.

You may find going through the fenderwell will be easier as you can see a lot better. Not sure on the 5.7, but on the 6.1 the fitment is very tight and it is a major pain to install - I actually had to grind/round off the edges on the heater tube in order to get it to fit, and I had to loosen the starter as well.

Completely agree. I just didn't have the patience to order, got one 2k miles ago.

LOL. Sometimes I forget that some of us here were actually able to buy one off the dealers lot and not have to wait 7 to ???? weeks for a special order.

Re: Hemi Block Heater

Per below, one would definitely come in handy here. Though gotta say, the beast fires up in subzero on first turnover of the starter, even remotely.

It should be standard in cold regions.....like they do here.

Re: Hemi Block Heater

I received the block heater today it came in two days early. I attempted to slide it by the front pipe from above and under the vehicle. The heater is too long to get the correct angle needed to insert it into the hole. It also looks like the starter needs to be taken off because it’s in the way too. The directions don't mention anything about the starter.

I looked at taking off the left front wheel to go straight in from there as Milous suggested from his post however, the WK2 is much different than Milous PIC from his WK. The suspension/uni-body frame is in the way so going through the well isn’t an option in this case.

I’ll look at again this weekend because I didn’t have enough time to work on it tonight. It looks like I will take it to the dealer though as I really don’t want to get into dropping the starter and/or the front pipe. I don’t have all the necessary tools or access to a lift for this job.

I will post an update this weekend on my results or decision. BTW the block heater was made in Canada.

Re: Hemi Block Heater

Is there a recommended temperature below which you should plug your heater in? I'm a new to the block heater but living in Chicago it should come in handy.
