Question High Altitude or Overland??

I am looking to purchase a new GC and can't decide between these two trims.

I want the more off-road capable build, but really like the looks of the HA.

I am confused about what options are available on each:

High Altitude is listed as having sport-tuned suspension... but also air suspension. Isn't this a conflict? Meaning, more articulation is better in off-road conditions, and that is usually had by not so stiff of dampers/shocks?

Does the High Altitude have a removable from fascia like the other trims?

I think the High Altitude doesn't have one of the off-road packages that includes full skid plates and 18" wheels. Is that true?

Thanks, all!

Re: High Altitude or Overland??

Sounds like off-roading is a priority so I would imagine the regular Overland is the one for you.
I would get the High Altitude because it looks cooler :-)

Re: High Altitude or Overland??

Either route you go, you will have a nice looking SUV. If you're more off road oriented the Overland is more suited to you, while the High Altitude is tailored for street cred. I think they both are equally nice looking vehicles.

Re: High Altitude or Overland??

HA is a special edition on the Overland and inherits the Overland features, including QL. HA also has limited options available. As scooter' mentions, HA is marketed as a street machine with the Summit fascias. If you truly want to off-road, the Overland is going to have the edge at the front due to the ability to remove the lower air dams for more clearance. That's not something you can easily do with the Summit fascias on the HA.

Re: High Altitude or Overland??

I am not sure if a dealer will be able to do this but since I have decided on a 2017 model I will most likely put and order in for one to build when the time comes this summer.

I love the look and features of the HA, but i despise the black wheels. Black wheels just make a vehicle look cheap to me and I am not sure why more and more manufacturers are trending this way. They have grown on me over the last couple years though I will admit that. The HK 19 speaker upgrade and advanced tech package seems standard on most dealers lots around here and both are really key features for me other than the blacked out trim pieces.

So...i am hoping the dealer will be allowed to order me a HA with the polished aluminum rims that are on the Overland, to me that would look killer. Or maybe one of the SRT wheels even if they allow it??

Either way if they don't allow it I think I am going to come back on here and see if anyone wants to trade from there overland, or maybe Ill just buy polished aluminum outright on ebay and then just sell the black ones afterwards.

Re: High Altitude or Overland??

Do we know if the off road package (18in wheels and skid plates?) in the overland includes A/T tires? If all-season tires, then I'd opt for the bigger wheels, I think.

Also, does the allegedly stiffer shocks on the HA hinder off-road performance? Less articulation? I get there are still sway bars attached and articulation will always be limited... I just can't imagine stiffer shocks helping. Or is it negligible?

Re: High Altitude or Overland??

Shockwave, you can't order the HA with alternative wheels from the factory...you'll have to depend upon your dealer being willing to swap them for you for brights from another vehicle. Otherwise, you'll have to find someone else to swap with or take the hit and buy what you want after the fact.

Drew4392, the MY16 OR-II package includes real AT tires. The MY15 and previous does not. I do not believe that the HA actually has "stiffer shocks"...it's an air suspension, but I could be wrong about that. There have been mixed messages about that.

unlike previous years the overland with ORAII for 2016 gets an off road tire (265/60R18 Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure w/Kevlar Black Sidewall) and of course the skid plates and quadra drive II. ORAII is not an option though on HA only on overland.

Same as with the summit the HA lower front airdam is not intended for quick removal as with overland but it is removable on summit/HA. Just takes longger and has more clips. summit and HA also do not come with tow hooks but they can be added if you want to cut holes in the plastic lower airdam for them.

If you are looking at off road ability, between the overland, the HA or the summit, the HA is going to be your worst choice of the three. the 4x4 v8/diesel summit actually has more off road ability then the Overland High Altitude. The 4x4 v8/diesel summit has Quadra drive II standard, Quadra drive II is not available on HA and is an option on standard overland or is part of the ORAII overland package.

sounds like you are leaning more to off road ability and overland ORAII would be your best option for that. you could always get HA and add the 18s and skid plates and tow hooks on your own. going that route you would not have quadra drive II though you would have quadra trac II if that is something that is important to you. Quadra Drive II just means you get an Electronic Limited Slip Differential on the rear axle and on Quadra Trac II you don't. Not a huge deal but just something to be aware of if its important to you. Quadra Trac II is probably fine for most situations but if you are going to be pushing the limits then opt for the Quadra drive II

Decisions, decisions is always hard to get the best of both worlds isn't it. Good Luck shopping.

Get the Overland and do as I plan, change out or wrap the chrome.

Re: High Altitude or Overland??

Hi All,
What 4 wheel drive systems are available on the Qverland HA. Can you get quadradrive? Do you have to get a V8 in order to get quadradrive and a locking rear diff? I've only seen a V6 HA so far and it had quadra-trac 2.
Thanks

QuadraDrive is not available with the V6. V8 and Diesel only.
