Hill Descent Control Comment - 3.6L 2014

My WK2 jeep behaves as if it has Select Speed Control, when it is supposed to have only Hill Descent Control.
(this is a comment only, obviously I am not complaining)

I took delivery of a Canadian Spec 2014 JGC Limited in August 2014. 3.6L V6 QT2 with Tow/Advanced Tech/Luxury/20".

That it is supposed to be equipped with Hill Descent Control is confirmed by the button with the little downhill vehicle beside the Select Terrain knob.

We now have enough ice/snow and I can find a little hill to try out 4Lo and associated features. Going down the hill the feature worked as expected. But then it continued to function even on the flat at the bottom, so I turned around and went back up the hill. It continued to work with just the paddle shifters. Tried fully disengaging, then engaging at the bottom and "Hill Descent Control" worked perfectly going up the hill. Just as if it had Select Speed Control.

I am surprised and curious if others have any comments. I will just enjoy this unexpected feature.

Owners Manual page 457: Hill Descent Control (HDC) If Equipped
p.458: Once HDC is enabled it will activate automatically if driven down a grade of sufficient magnitude (greater than approximately 8%).
p.459: HDC will be deactivated but remain available if any of the following conditions occur:
(...)
Vehicle is on a downhill grade of insufficient magnitude (less than approximately 8%), is on level ground, or is on an uphill grade.

When in 4 Low, the engine power is greatly multiplied, so the Jeep will drive forward up and down hills by itself at idle. Is this what you are experiencing, or does the the EVIC show you Speed-Select options/indications?

Your Jeep does not have a behavior problem. It has that feature. Blame the manual for being incomplete.

You are correct. I found a bigger hill and the jeep could not get up it with HDC on. On the little hill it was just going up at idle. HDC still works great going downhill.

HDC stands for HILL DESENT CONTROL that's going down

Not Hill ASENT Control
