Also, how well did the car hold its value over the 2 years?

I tend to keep cars for 10+ years and try to get 200K miles out of them, so I don't pay too much attention to depreciation. Good thing because I did a quick check of Edmunds TMV and I'd be lucky to get back what's owed on one of them if I traded it in now.
Hammer,

I loved the G37S. We just needed something bigger since we just had our first child two months ago. The G37S is a finely tuned machine and "rocket" is aptly named...she's fast! Car was flat out gorgeous inside and out. I waited to get the 2009 when we bought it instead of picking up a 2008 G35 because of the 7-spd, self-healing paint, bump in horsepower with the new 3.7 vs. 3.5 engine and was glad I did. I will say that everyone that is foaming for the new 8-spd should be careful what they ask for. My only complaint on the G37S was the 7-spd. The increase in MPG was only 1 MPG for the extra two gears but I felt like the car was constantly shifting. An 8-spd will feel even more so. Most people will agree a 4-spd has gears that are much too tall and some even complain about that issue regarding the current 5-spd but I disagree. You can have gear ratios that are too short as well. The current 5-spd really is a perfect blend. I love it in my 2009 Ram 1500 Laramie HEMI and I'm sure I'll love it in my 2011 JGC Overland as well. With that said, I would love to have kept the G37S and gotten the JGC to go along with my Truck but I gotta start saving for my daughter's wedding and college fund

Heh. Reminds me of a rental car I had a few weeks ago that didn't have automatic windows. When I got in, I was like, "Seriously?"
I don't think I'd seen a car window handle for about 20 years. It had A/C, but I rolled the window down once just for old times sake.

It was a Hyndai. I think an Accent.

Re: Holy crap... hope no one is planning on trading in their WK2

It seems that all of the jeeps depreciate about 25% or so, but then they hold their value there, which is expected because you can't count on buying a new car and loosing nothing in it.

Re: Holy crap... hope no one is planning on trading in their WK2

I figured the CLUNK sound I heard as I drove off the dealer's lot was $5K-$10K of value falling off my new Jeep! Or, maybe it was my steering wheel mid-shaft??

Your $10K did not surprise me in the least!

32K for a basic limited 2wd. Sounds like a damn good offer to me. Just curious, have you ever been surprised by a trade in offer on any car?

Re: Holy crap... hope no one is planning on trading in their WK2

This thread is stupid. It's what one dealer offered for one vehicle.

If you're stupid enough to be surprised at the lowball offer, that's probably why he offered it-- he thought you may be stupid enough to take it.

I recommend you familiarize yourself with market economies and the concept of negotiation.

Re: Holy crap... hope no one is planning on trading in their WK2

It's a good reminder that sales people represent the interests of the organizations they sell for, not necessarily their buyers' interests. Some sales people try to establish trust just so they can lowball you. Others, perhaps more enlightened, work for relatively quick, fair deals knowing that produces better results in the long run.

When I'm low-balled, I usually find another dealership right away. Just a personal quirk.

Re: Holy crap... hope no one is planning on trading in their WK2

You definitely just have to realize you'll rarely get a dealership's best offer the first time unless you tell them flat out that they get one shot to make the deal and let them know you've done your homework with values of your trade etc. If they still lowball you, smile get up and walk out. Like others have said, their job is to maximize their profit and your job is to minimize it...simple as that.
