Holy Sticker Shock

Walked by whatever the latest high zoot Benz SUV is, inside a mall display no less.

Sticker was $75K. 30 less HP than the Hemi.

Surely it drives nice and all, but dare I say, it looked a bit weak compared to the JGC.

Not kidding. Kudos Jeep.

Not sure, think it was the GL450, with DOHC V8, 335 hp, as the mpg ratings were something like 12-19 city/highway. I might have been more charitable if it was the diesel. Will go back and take a photo later.

moneen - just saw your config, very nice, would like do many similar mods with the CAI, cat backs, alpines, winter sneaks.

Re: Holy Sticker Shock

I known the WK2 is the twin of the ML 350. Is that the current generation or the next one?

I compared the dimensions of it to the current generation ML and it's just about identical!

Re: Holy Sticker Shock

Never buy a GL. I have heard from several people owning them that they would have to replace the tires every 1-2 years! With normal driving!

Re: Holy Sticker Shock

Yeah even with fewer horses it still outruns the GC though. They're not really in the same class anyway. The GL is considered full size. They drive nice and all but its just a big wagon on stilts really. Still one of the best fullsize SUVs on the market
Lexus LX/Toyota Landcruiser>Infiniti QX>Benz GL>Audi Q7>Escalade/Denali>Navigator.

Thats pretty much the hierarchy right now.

Re: Holy Sticker Shock

If you price out a Mercedes ML with all the features of the Overland its about $20k more. Since they are built on the same platform I can't imagine they are that much different to drive.

Those Mercedes-Benz logos must be made of pure platinum.

You're almost right. Platinum still wouldn't account for $20k. They're made of the crystalized tears of widows and orphans!

Re: Holy Sticker Shock

I actually think the interior fit and finish, not to mention the styling of the ML isn't up to par with the Jeep. Also unlike some other Mercedes, MLs just don't hold their resale all that well. Although this generation is better than last.

Re: Holy Sticker Shock

I just sold my 2008 GL450 recently and ordered the 5.7L Overland. Loved the GL for its on road manners and 7 passenger seating. I no longer felt I needed the extra seating and was really in need of something that had better off-road attributes. The GL has no low range gearing but it did have a sweet 7 speed transmission which might explain why it is a little quicker to 60. Both are about the same weight.

Although I have only test drove a 5.7 liter Limited, I can tell you that the GL is no where near 30K better than the Limited, not even half that. I am well aware that the two are are not usually cross-shopped, but jeep did a such a great job with this SUV that I purchased one.

Re: Holy Sticker Shock

I'm in the same boat. Been driving Denalis for the past 9 or 10 years, but even with 3 dogs I don't really need all that space and would prefer to have some offroad capability, even if the worst I go through is old forest service or logging roads.

I ebayed my 3rd row seats a long time ago.
