Re: Horn Problem

grew up outside NYC man, driven there many times. I know how people drive, i guess i just dont feel the need to beep for 10 sec at a time. i mean, they know they are driving like idiots, all you're doing is creating noise pollution and making them bitter AND bad drivers.

dont come at me like im one of the guys who complains and brings up stupid problems, you dont know me. You posted admitting to holding the horn so long it stops working... now you're pissed that we called you out on being a jerk.

my honest opinion is that i dont think the horn is designed to beep that long. If i wanted to make loud noises for 10 sec with my horn, i'd prolly pump it (is that the right word?) .... like beep beep beep beep instead of beeeeeeep. I dont know how the horn mechanism works, but its probably some sort of diaphragm, spring, or something, so when you complete the circuit with the horn button, it "unwinds" or "exhales" or something, then when you let go, it "rewinds". if i was to offer advice, i would say use short blasts.

i offered my input up there. I dont want to cause a flame war. I did see what you said and assumed then that it would take a 10 sec blast to kill the horn. this would then tell me you were doing a 10 sec blast that caused it to fail.

Backing off now, sorry to upset you.

I don't sit here and make nasty comments about all the frivolous nonsense people complain about, like what radio software they have, why their door handles don't light up or whether 89 or 91 gas is better. So I don't expect people to to insult me.
Come drive in NYC and then tell me you dont need a working horn, not cause people wont go fast enough for you, but because people drive very dangerously and think nothing of cutting unsafely in front of you or switching lanes without checking blind spots. Please come try it for yourself.
onesgt - My first instinct is to defend you, especially since I too have driven in NYC (and Boston). No doubt a working horn is vital. I honestly can't figure out though when you would ever want a 10 second continuous blast (from a safety perspective).

Usually when I see someone laying on the horn that long, it's because they are stuck and trying to get some doofus up ahead to move along (instead of doing something annoying like stopping in traffic, waiting to pick up someone, etc.) The problem is, you now annoy everybody within earshot - and city life gets that much coarser.

So while I'm not going to insult you, I'll just say that if the horn works reliably for reasonable 2-3 bursts, I really don't think you can claim it's a defect that it won't do a series of continuous blasts.

Re: Horn Problem

Once again.....the ten second blast was what I did to see if I could recreate the problem in my own driveway. In the street after a couple of close encounters which happened within a short time span and having to use the horn is when I first noticed the problem. It was NOT from holding in in for an unnecessary amount of time in the street to make some slow ass get out of the way. Thanks again to all the adults, goodnight to all the children.

Re: Horn Problem

BTW, the dealer also recreated the issue and has submitted the issue to STAR. Service Manager said it is NOT normal and shouldn't be happening.
