it will also be the base engine for the challenger, charger, 300 and others. Some are saying it will get 37 mpgs in the challenger.

I'm not adverse to anything like this if it's suitable to provide safe performance while giving greater fuel economy. The fact that it's a 2.0L engine is of less importance than what that engine can output for HP and torque, given the weight of the JGC, even if they bring that down with new materials and build techniques on the new platform.

Do you know if it's 37 combined or 37hwy? If it's highway, I don't feel like 37 is all that impressive for a 2 door car. I could be wrong though.

The Acura MDX SH-AWD gets like what, 27 highway? If they drop a 2.0TT in the GC I hope it can exceed 30hwy with the 4x4 option. And being that it's basically 2020, we should not be expecting anything less.

I don't think a 2.0TT would be bad, but we would have to see what kind of weight the 2019 is able to lose because it this point, it's a porker.

Thinking about it, the Kia Optima makes 276hp out of a single turbo 2.0, BMW makes 300hp out of a 3.0TT (although we all know those numbers are a low ball) so I could see a lighter GC with a 2.0TT being very much so adequate. I would imagine it producing similar output numbers to the current Pentastar with far better efficiency. But that's just off of thinking about other motors and landing somewhere in between. I could be wrong.

idc what it is.

a 4cyc DOES NOT BELONG.

they did this with wranglers and Cherokee's and they SUCKED.

Idc if it's mpg's turbos add way extra maintenance. let alone twins.

now a pentastar TT or a pentastar v8 TT

The BMW has been a single turbo for a long time now not TT. I'm not a against this change with 8speed and higher transmissions it should make very usable power and be economical.

Re: How do you feel about a 2.0L TT as the base engine for the 2019 WL Grand Cherokee

The European market has been using 2.0T's for years with plenty of success.
It's about time Jeep realizes the potential of a turbo engine.

Volvo has recently gone to a supercharged/turbo 2.0 and is seeing the best sales in years for the restyled XC90.

Now if they could only adopt the quality and service the Europeans offer.

Re: How do you feel about a 2.0L TT as the base engine for the 2019 WL Grand Cherokee

I have a Ford 2.0 in an '15 Escape. It has plenty of power for that vehicle but wouldn't do well in today's JGC. That said, although this is a fairly new engine and used across the Ford and Lincoln line, they have already redesigned it.

The turbo technology seems to be progressing in leaps and bounds. By the time the '19 JGC hits the road (sometime in 2022 ) they should have one that's a good fit.

Since I hope to be back in a HEMI powered JGC in the relatively near future, and hopefully this one will be a keeper, they should be well tested before I need to try one.

Bullshit. The 3.0 V6 is a twin turbo. My 335i was a TT and so is my buddy's X5.

There is no extra maintenance with turbo engines. change the oil just like you would with an NA engine. Nothing different.
